Yeah, and guys... Ignore the typical "comment because i'm an attention whore, who feels the need to say something cynical on Kotaku". I see a lot of bashing simply because a ton of people on Kotaku seem to not understand what the term "re-design" is. Really, the results and every submission i've seen have truly been a testament to the talent you see here on Polycount. Absolutely great job everyone!
PS: Just remember Kotaku value's their cosplayers more than talented developers.
Haha fucking hell those Kotaku comments had me lol'ing pretty good. Some gems:
"Splotch some red on her and take off a limb, and I couldn't tell her from a resident evil victim. Also, Haggar piledriving a shark has never looked so blatantly homosexual. And that Akuma. Yeesh. I didn't realize Azuma was a horrific undead mutant discarded from a Gorrillaz album cover and smashed with an ugly-bat about 6 thousand times. Also, Mario ate Donkey Kong, I guess. Or at least two of them.
Yeah, these suck."
"Yuck. Someone please needs to explain the uncanny valley to these people.
Most of these are worse than a Zemekis mo-cap film."
"It's called critiquing. It's part of the process."
And finally...
"Too much hating. These fantastic submissions (and more found at polycount) deserve praise, not picky complaints from people that know nothing about game art."
I fucking love the comments. I really do. Now when you go back to your desks and get paid to make this SHITTY art for a living you can laugh your ass off at the irony of the comments. If only they knew you're the ones making the art to their beloved games.

I wrote that one lol. I had to stick up for my polycount buddies!
Honestly, Kotaku has nothing going for it nowadays, so I don't see why you guys care about their commentators and journalists in anyway or form.
I mean honestly guys, you all did great work, last thing you should care about is the opinion about a bunch of ignorant buffoons on a site that is looser then the PSN Network on a jet engine on it's period.

Haha absolutely agree, they make such fools out of themselves
Its funny, all of those submissions are game-ready quality. If they came in a box or got patched into street fighter they would accept them, but since its "fanboy art" everyone starts hating on it. Still, if it were my stuff showing up on Kotaku, I would be a happy guy. Congrats to all of you!
I hope these chaps work in Visual Effects for a living, because that would be a lot of outright talent going to total waste otherwise.
Hakumen is especially well-realized.
Kotaku has been overrun with idiots for years, it got really bad when they redesigned.
Not showing stages? Yet another fuck up that will keep me from gracing their pages...

While its kind of funny the way he did it, the guy who posted the article "Michael McWhertor" is a bit of a dick. This was the first time in months that I posted on Kotaku and bam it gets my star revoked heh.
Lighten up dude...
He just pissed on everyone who worked their asses off in the stage competition, not cool.
F*ck Kotaku, this brawl link was the last time i went there in months, possibly the last time.
Upvoted on reddit, shame it wont be making front page. (someone may want to resubmit with a more clarified headline "Remade our favorite game characters, what do you think reddit!?" and a thumbnail, also make sure you have about 10 people ready to upvote the hell out of it when it's posted)
mayor /care what some idiots on kotaku think , getting appreciated on pc and probably every other cgart community is what counts and you know that's the case
And that Akuma. Yeesh. I didn't realize Azuma was a horrific undead mutant discarded from a Gorrillaz album cover and smashed with an ugly-bat about 6 thousand times.
How'd this guy know exactly what I was aiming for?
That akuma was actually one of my favorites stylewise. So yeah, don't listen to 'im. Other than that I feel hugely unpopular as an environment artist. Like a geek chess club goth kid.

Thanks Wahlgren! I've read quite a few negative comments, but I've also read just as many positive ones about all of the art in the competition. I haven't worked in the industry yet (Can't wait to move to Seattle), but just to be in the same competition with a lot of the artists I've respected since early college was a blast.
Also, I wish I could do half of the stuff you environment artist do.

I should know better than to peek in the comments there..Armchair developers always get a rise out of me.
Congrats, regardless. Pretty awesome art, and its cool to see it on kotaku!

congrats, all!
You mean like the TF2 Polycount bag had nothing to do with it... oh.
