Meshlab/ pro optimizer or do it yourself low poly

Hi i am about to do my lowpoly on a airplane mesh that i made the high poly is about 30 000 and i was wondering what the cumunity as to say about those tools, i normaly do all my lowpoly by hand and cutting but since there a lot of cylinder in my model i would have to redo it from scratch...

So is it so bad to use those tools to do the lowpoly?

i use meshlab time to time on mostly organic stuff or things like broken concrete.
for mechanical things i find doing it by hand gets better results with more control.

and with cylinders you could easily just reduce the amount of sides by deleting every 2nd edge loop and tweaking what is left. but that is prolly just as much work and just modeling a new one around the HP one.

You'll find you get a better result by doing your low-poly from scratch. Sounds like a pain now but you will be hurting if your take shortcuts here. Passerby is correct, decimating (which is what pro-optimse and meshlab do) only gives good results on organic meshes that wont need to deform (animate) too much.
