Hello all,
So I don't really post much and mostly lurk around reading and learning but this time the search functions seem to have failed me.
I currently use a really crappy old circa 90's chair at my system and it has started causing me some issues while sitting in it for long periods of time.
Anyway, I am considering buying a new chair and I was wondering what types of chairs people use and enjoy.
Some chairs I know feel great for the first few hours but after a while put strain on the back or shoulders. I know it's all generally up to personal preference but posture can be very important while working and so I'm curious to see how people can make it through those long sits in front of the screen.
With that said, please post your chair and rate it!

Both at work and I home. Lower back problems are simply vanishing!
care to explain to me why this is making your lower back problems vanish?
I can appreciate the wonders of using a stool rather than a chair.. but hows your back after 8 or 9 hours? Tired I would imagine..
The reason why it helps is because the angle between your trunk and your legs is not 90degrees anymore. Your posture is more open since you can sit like on a saddle, with a lot of lower body mobility. You can also spread your knees very easily since theres nothing to prevent them from freely moving.
And nope its not tiring at all! Much less than a chair locking your spine in place in a wrong curvature, at least for me. Basically, with a stool you have no choice, your back muscles just have to do their job! Im loving it. I ditched my comfy chair at home, and only keep the one at the office for whoever needs to sit next to my desk to talk. Makes everybody happy! No way to slouch either. Dont get me wrong, I always loved the "ultra slouch" when one ends up disappearing under the desk... but it's just not productive, makes me wanna nap hehe.
You do need a good L-desk with this tho - in order to have some sort of elbow/arm support. I suppose that the fancy articulated elbow extension clamps could do the job too...
I did not sped $500 on this chair though.
Cool prior might have to test this out.
Edit:
This is what I had in mind:

Having a comfty chair would actually make working longer hours much easier....
However! If you get a nice desk that can go up and down (or a sturdy arm to mount the monitor and input devices on) then its nice to have.
We just got this in at work for a bunch of people. The nice new chairs have been slowly trickling in. I love this chair. Was thinking about getting one for home since mine is god awful. But I had no idea they were that expensive, fuck.
I might look into getting a stool on Pior's recommendation. The backrest is doing me no good. I remember I used to have one of these when I was younger.
Countless hours of Diablo 2 were spent on that one and it was great.
I also set up my dual screen vertically (with an ergotron arm) - it encourages one to sit straight!
from the other chair thread <--
