My name is Joseph Taskis and I am studying BA honours: Games Art at the University of Hertfordshire. I have been tasked with finding a team and make a games trailer. The important parts of the brief are below:
Brief:
Production of a 1.10-3min Short Real Time Game Trailer, Cinematic or Fly through.
Produce a real time Game Trailer. Loosely based on your MDD produced in last semester in the game autopsy module or you can construct a new one. The game concept you run with will be chosen and developed in your group. You are asked to model, texture, light and produce a short realtime games trailer with sound and titles. The trailer should be a minimum of 1.10 minutes long and should be to the quality of a "vertical slice."
You are asked to design and produce in small groups of 2-4 people a real time games trailer using the Unreal engine. The level can be created in an engine of your liking but keep in mind that lessons will be in the Unreal-UDK engine. The level must include highly detailed environmental assets; these could include landscapes, buildings, vehicles, characters etc. All must be correctly modelled and textured. You will capture footage of your game from within the engine using fraps or Jing and compile a games trailer.
Final SubmissionSubmission 1, Work must be handed in class 1B05 before 11pm on
Monday 09/05/11 and loaded onto the PC lab machine for collection by the tutor.
Part 1, Plastic wallet with a filled out by the group with an assessment sheet filled out explaining how much you have learnt from this project. There will also be USB containing two folders one with a quick time movie of your
Real Time Game Trailer, Cinematic or Fly through and the other with all the source files for the project all in tidy folders with a file explaining all their contents. 3DSMax files, Textures, Obj, The UDK folder and so on.
Part 2, Before you hand in this submission you will load up a Quicktime movie 1.10 - 3minute Short Real Time Game Trailer, Cinematic or Fly through onto the lab PC in 1B05 at 11pm - HD Quicktime Mov, well compressed, must be less than 200mb!
Part 3, A studynet hand in on the assignments section with a link to your quick time movie will be loaded onto Vimeo by 12pm
Part 4, - Print resolution vanity stills - 4 well composed print resolution vanity stills re-touched in Photoshop (1920x1080 or higher)

Bad compression and unwanted artefacts (scintillation, vibrating textures etc) will affect grades.
We will then call you in on the 10th or 11th May 2011 for a Viva Q&A and give you a chance to talk about your creation and give us extra information about why we should chose your film for film day. Specific times of presentations will be published nearer the time.
The Film Jury Premieres for Film Day will then follow - The Jury panel will be chosen and presented to the head of school for final selection. The best Trailer, Cinematic or Fly through will then be asked to polish there project for film day, only the best one or maybe two will get through, on occasion we may chose three as we try to make the number of films up to around 15 films.
