Did a little bit more, still very WIP and I wanna go into more detail with the cloth, with some odd stitching, rips and ...tufts (for lack of a better word)
As well as sorting out some folds and making it look a bit more natural. Will also clean up the neck area, didn't want to add too much but it doesn't really blend with the face as well as I'd like it.
Thanks for the crit and comments.
edit:
Also aware of the size difference of the broken left overall strap.
I'll be getting back onto this shortly, I just took some time to do a SD Character art test, which taught me quite a bit... anyway can't really show that, but more updates on this soon! I have a lot of catching up to do, yikes.
One thing bothering me though. The shirt buttons are very symmetrical and maybe the top 1 or 2 buttons should be open. Maybe your getting to that though.
Love the torn overall strap, really great details so far. I agree with stinger88 on the buttons though, they do look very symmetrical. Having the shirt open a little bit more could lead to some gross chest hair opportunities too
Yeah the shirt buttons are something I'm aware of, also will be replacing the blobby buttons with another sub-tool, and remodel some cloth so it goes to one side like a normal shirt.
I love the proportions of the body but I'm not so sure about the face. Your concept has interesting facial features that aren't holding up as well in the model, eyebrows and chin for example. Maybe it's just the angle, can ya show a profile or perspective shot?
Oh my, an update! Looking awesome mr Fletcher!
A few notes though:
- The colors are pretty washed out. Is that the texture or are you using the tonemapper in UDK?
- Sweaty cloth isn't really shiny, so not sure if that's in the diffuse or specular... However, I would suggest you add some big wet spots on his shirt. Like under his armpits and near his chest. Like this
The command to get rid of the HUD is "togglescreenshotmode" and the command to go into some sort of flight mode is "fly". You can also type in "FOV 80" or such to change the field of view.

to me the face looks like it's collapsing a bit with the lack of proper cheekbones, like the ones you have in the concept
If it were me I'd replace his head with a giant moustache though!
I agree with the paintover of Kotter ; but anyway, the concept and the style are in da place as usual !
Well I will sit down and enjoy the ride until your final shot !
A lil pump clip who can maybe inspire you, and who totally fit to your subject !
"Do the Mario, bro !"

I'm sure you'll nail it!
I'm sure you'll finish the Mario.. you're practically done the high rez sculpt, and you're J F'n' Fletcher!
That's some realistic Mario! Will we see his butt stick out of his pants like a lot of plumbers?
Overalls still need quite a bit of work, and the attachment, coming along though.

Thanks for the feedback, more soon!
nice one Fletcher
Guess what I forgot.
...The grip pen.
This is gonna be a long week of mouse sculpting thankfully it's mostly hard surface stuff left.
p.s. I feel your pain with the mouse sculpting. =( that's a real bummer

But this rocks mah socks either way!
There is no specular map yet. How I forgot that as something to note is beyond me.

posting it on next page for convenience

Quite , didn't manage to get much work done over easter, and the deadline is coming up so I need to push on with the texture.
Here it is so far:
THINGS TO NOTE:
Aware of the horrible smoothing, I will be rebaking most of the belt stuff.
The field of view is sort of killing it at the moment, how do you change the FoV for the viewport camera?
Will add more triangles where they are needed, mostly to the ripped strap.
What's the command to hide the HUD in game again + some sort of flight mode so I can get a good angle? Would search but I should get to work, hehe.
MUCHO W.I.P! A lot of areas untouched, also dont have a connection at home so I cant source any decent texture overlays... So yeah, W.I.P etc
edit:
Also the sweat on the shirt will be reworked.
The back of the character is looking quite plain at the moment, I'll show it when it's a bit more interesting.
