Hey guys, heres an update of the actual low poly model, theres still alot to tweak and texture bake cleanups I gotta do. Once its ready, I'll start doing paint scratches, weathering on the metals, some panel lines and all that extra fun stuff I also left some texture space for alpha hair and beam sabre alpha fx too
As long as the red is a little more apple red I'll love this more than I already do, glad you stuck with original, very nice can't wait for more.

urgh..yeah i desaturated it slightly, but now its looking more towards pink right? =/ I'll have to change it back to a nice solid red on the next update.
After checking your portfolio i have no doubt you'll be able to bring his face more to life so i wont bother critting. I cannot wait to see where you go with this.
Purple emblem on his head bothers me a little though, think blue would work better (the usual color he has).

Heres another update with more texturing and clean up! I did some color correction, added some hair. I also bent the elbow and knee joints so they are more natural and not so stiff like the previous post.
Come to think of it, Zero doesnt really need a beam sabre when his buster was originally that right? Which one do you guys prefer?
Buster arm with crazy emissive glows on the end and lose the beam sabre handle. Also asymmetrical to break up it up

Hands on both sides with the beam sabre? (higher polycount with all the joints too..ugh)
Oh nvm...actually I just realize from the video in mvc3, his arm actually transforms and switches in between different attacks.
Im also thinking about giving him a better facial expression, like his usual grin and change his eyes a bit more..making him look more reckless

I fixed the bottom of his boot as well, the normals were a bit wobbly looking before.
Also gunna add green flame rising on top of the beamsabre (akuma style)
The hair placement's gotta be adjusted better too I guess..
This is looking great! I like the face a whole lot better. As far as the pose maybe like an air dash? Maybe in a diagonal direction? Or perhaps slashing down with a light trail?
I noticed the hair is going to be a problem, its gunna cover all the fun details i made on his back.. For his back shot, I'll probably make his hair do a swirl so it can be showcased better
Looks pretty awesome, one thing that looks a little odd to me though is the eyes. I feel like the eyes could be pushed a little further some how. Granted it could just be the distance, but the blue of the eyes seems to blend in with the white of the eyes a bit. Have you tried to experiment with possibly have a ring of black or a darker color around the blue?
I would also say push that texture alot more. It just seems like you have solid colors, with scrapes on them. You don't seem to be breaking up any of the highlights or diffuse with a metal overlay or much of anything.
Looking amazing though. You're definitely kicking my ass on the productivity with a megaman character.
very awesome! i think the expression is definatly odd, the shape the lips are making along with the eye shape is a bit odd...fantastic work on the hair planes tho, that looks really badass!

Main thing is he looks more surprised than ready to fight, gave him more of a "V" eyebrow line. Also simplified his mouth just a touch to give him more of his trademark style, the change is more a matter of taste than anything i think though. There wasn't much skin showing so i reduced the green lighting on it, felt it helped his form read a little better. Just minor stuff, already super badass.

So I've been trying to optimize the polys more..the mesh from the previous render is 36k tris (for my portfolio) and for this contest, I got it down to 19k tris yesterday without breaking the silhouette. Just a bit more to go..i think the rule is 12k right? >__<
This looks great. Crazy modeling! Only crit is that the sword feels alot like one of those retractable toy light sabers. I'd say that the more straight edges you can remove from the silhouette of the energy part of the blade the better. More like the first image you have here, but in the style that you currently have for the energy coming off the blade. Great job though, looks awesome.
Also, please show off that awesome hair in the final pose
While the execution is nicely done, some proportion bother me mostly with the bottom part which give a heavy look to the character.
Then it look like his helmet is too much small for his head and I wasn't a big fan of his expression.
...so I did a paintover (as usual, feel free to discard O.o) :

@EzMeow, Oh okay...yeah i see where your going but I think the mouth breaks up the symmetry. As for the legs shrunk down for realistic scale...I think for THIS particular anime-ish character, keeping the heavy look on the legs would work better... plus Zero has a tiny torso/big legs in the ref as well. I think making his torso larger kinda throws it off the original a bit I guess =/
One of the main issues these paintovers are trying to fix is still that look of "surprise". If you're able to see someone's full iris in the eye, it means they're opening their eyes wide in shock, there's really no other expression that does this. If you were to pull the eyelids down a touch it would do a lot to make him look a bit more natural.

Final update of the weekend, played around with the lighting..and added some emissive alphas..finally doesnt look like a gawd damn plastic toy ahaha
