I'm such a whore ... so predictable for me to pick the environment that has a bigass vehicle right in the centre!
Dunno about the characters though. If I do it alone, I'll omit them, replace them by other interesting stuff. How are the rules on this anyway? Would posed characters in there be allowed ?
And for the setting, I don't really know yet, maybe just scifi, but I might get a better idea.
There are like a million Fighter threads out there already so I want to try and maybe win something for once
LET'S GO!

Looking forward to it!
But seriously, looking forward to this!
Seriously, though, this will be awesome. I really look forward to seeing what you do with it!
I also created a moodie board
Our skills complement each others well. Just gotta see if our visions are in harmony before we go balls to the wall and lay down some hurt on UDK.
Doing some talking and planning now to see if we can pull it off. I kinda have a long vacation without a computer at the end. Might not be ideal.
hahahahaha
Very formidable team!
GL guys!
I'd imagine for this contest, because it's seem from ONE Camera angle, you could delete all backfaces.. right?
Probably go ahead and bake all lightning information into all static objects as well, and have a 100% diffuse (no lightning or shading even required).
i really hope you create one of those crazyass scifi jetfighters like in your moodboard
Yeah I agree. It would look awesome.
Oh no no, that takes out some fun. We both want to animate some objects a bit, have a bit of movement to add interest. Also we wanna go pretty heavily for the DX11 effects with this one so no pure diffuse
Thanks rest, for the fighter I think it'll be this one with a few of my own tweaks:

I failed an attempt to model that one, like 3-4 years ago. Time to give it another shot.
I'm looking forward to seeing all the DX11 and animated coolness you two can rock out.
I'm using real machinery as a basis for the basic shapes and functions and adding a bit of various sci fi concepts on top over it for that futuristic sexy feel. Still working on proportions and such... not hundred 100% happy with legs and overall shape at the back.
I like it! The legs, maybe have them arc downwards instead of upwards like they are now?
For the back, i wouldn't put the two wheels apart so far, they should sit closer. Maybe make the wider part at the front less long, and lengthen the part at the back so you could add the wheels next to each other there.
I gotta get started once I'm back home!
I've done some more tweaks to the little sucker since this. I'll show it to you when you're online. It's getting there (at least in my eyes, it's almost a hot rod-y tractor drone now :S).
The front wheel has to stay where it is because when I move it everything seems horribly unbalanced and it looks like it will tip over. I'll play around with it more and once the overall shape is locked down I'll get onto the details. I'm going for a fairly clean low maintenance military look to the hard ware. Kinda like your jet.
Anyway. this is a convo for a more private nature! Nothing interesting for the others.
Thats awesome! i really want to learn how to animate!
AE. I was planning on doing an animation tutorial for enviro artists before this (i made one on how to get animations into UDK), just didn't have time to sit down and do a proper interesting mesh and such. Guess I got one now huh? I wouldn't mind pointing out my hacked together ways in the meantime since I won't write up a lengty tutorial while the comp is running. Time is already short for me
Right now it's all just linked together in a parent child-relationship. I've got one dummy in there but that's just so the mesh wont warp and get skewed. I plan on putting in some IK's and bones later on.
Jet blockout:
not sure about the wing shape, maybe a delta config is better:
And finally the exhaust can open up and move a bit:
Andre expected it to be more scifi, maybe change it a bit then, add more crazy shapes.

Anyway, I've started on the lowpoly for the loader but I won't spam the thread no more until I got some true goodies to show. Currently got alot of work on my plate so it might be a few days.
Ooh, it would be pretty sweet to see some flaps wobbling about a bit in a heat-blurred jetstream as the jet sits idle!
Just dreamin out loud :poly142:
Anyways I finished up my D6 if your interested, minus a few proportion issues I will address at a later time.
I'll keep this one subscribed.
Aiming to have alot of cool stuff this weekend. Environment shot aswell as fairly finished high poly and low poly of loader.
Just noticed a miss...
Haha, Oops I was wondering where my post went
Looking splendid so far, fellas.
Anyway. Here's a real minor quickie asset I've done for the scene. Lensflares and dynamic casting light/shadows to be added once it's set up in UDK, This is a shot from max. Texturesize will probably bumped down but decided to keep it 512 for portfolio purposes.
Also working on the low poly of the loader. Been doing a bunch of placeholder meshes aswell for the environment and some messing around to find a good ide a for the composition.
I would love to see more compositional blockouts of the environment though. I think it'd make more sense to be blocking in the environment at the same time and getting feedback on that. Sure, working on individual props is fun but if the composition is off, the scene won't be as awesome as it could be! Let us crit some composition!
