Alright, I'm gonna be cool and change up my idea. After getting my first concept in 3D I realized I wasn't happy with the direction. I didn't really have a unifying theme to complete the design, just minor details and cool little circles. Like this:
So, now that that's behind me, I'll tell you what's really going on. My new direction (nude erection, hehe) is to make him a futuristic formula five robot gladiator racer... thing. I don't know, it sounds weird but I'm going to do some paint overs soon and let you know.
whoah you really went 180 from your concept! i thought the 3d translation from your concept was looking pretty cool dood. this is looking bad ass as wel. i really lke the helmet. i do think that the lower body looks a bit akward maybe the hips and thighs? also are those wheels on this legs? this yoshi looks like he could take on slipgates nightmare ;D
Yeah, I'm still trying to work out how the legs are going to look. His core needs some beefing up still as well. I've got a good idea of how to change that and make it fit the theme.
so i was j/king yesterday about it being a samurai transformer but now that you added the wheels to the feet . . . all i
can say is: zoom zoom ZOOM! well that and "AUTOBOTS, GO!"
although im sad you've decided to scrap your original design, cause the concept art was so great and it was what led me to this comp, lol, your new design is shaping up great.
hope the sword is futuristic formula five robot gladiator racer aswell.
notice your new ref does NOT have wheels :P i think you should check out the mechs from Zone of Enders as well. hated that game but it was based around fast agile robots so . . . .
So, for this iteration of the project, I thought I could just skip the concept phase and just go straight into modeling the whole character. The thing is Im not good at conceptualizing and modeling at the same time.
It was a good decision to step back and take the time to actually draw out what I wanted.
Heres where my block is currently:
Heres where I want to take it. Im going to do detailed paint overs for the rest of the model and hopefully I can get it to work together and faster in the end. Heres hoping.
Like always, I wasn't satisfied with the design or my current direction. Here's my collection of revisions on what HOPES TO BE my final design. Guh, let's get modeling and stop bullshitting.
I don't like this new head. Kinda looks like he has a big conical nose. The previous head design is awesome. Actually. I'm not sure I like the legs either. They seem a bit cartoony and I dont think it fits.
Thanks Sting. I rushed the legs this time, but I just kind of wanted them to be larger up top and smaller towards the bottom. As far as the head goes I was hoping the red part would act as a helmet silhouette and the bottom one would look like a chin. It sucks because I like this new direction, but if it's not working then I can change it. Thanks for the critique
I like the conical nose, it looks good on the character I think!
edit: I see that its the chin now, but I kind of liked it when I thought the black part was the eyes and the chin was the nose, looks like a yoshimitsu face to me, resembles one of the masks he wore before
This is looking pretty sweet. I would maybe bulk upp the upper part of the calves for a little more rytm but definatly keep the ankles really thin. I dig this. Now get going!
Looks good, seems very solid. The only thing is I would like to see how you plan to design the boots. You need a little more detail there and then I think it's good to start modeling.
damn suburbum....I can just about get my head around one design, and you have already dropped two excelent concepts for a third......I love the shoulders in particular on the new one.....now get to it young man
Lol, hellspawn, I've actually never watched evangelion. I'm almost done with the arms on the new mesh and I can finally do something with the legs; they're driving me crazy!
Seth - Well, they're nice but I wasn't feeling it haha. S'alright, at least I started early so I have time to make decisions like this :P
Gonna do most of my high poly detail in zbrush this time. Experiments, experiments, experiments...
I guess its time for an update. Ive been following my concept pretty closely so far, but Ive been experimenting with shapes and ideas so far. Making this thing look cool AND making it functional has been the biggest battle for me. Thats what I get for doing a mechanical character.
His flag staff also acts as a sheath for his sword now (I dont really know how hes supposed to get it out of there though)
I added new discs onto his forearms for more hologram stuff
I havent decided on a final color scheme for him yet, but Im hoping this is a step in the right direction.
Doing a final block-out of the limbs is the most important right now before I move into Zbrush for the high poly detail.
Im really hoping to push this further and get some nice detail going seeing as this is my first time doing hard surface techniques. Oh well, here goes nothing.

More to come soon!
That is all

Any suggestions on the legs themselves?

Love the torso though. Put the old head on it
I've been trying to work that in but I haven't gotten it to work yet. I definitely wanted to do that from the get go though. Thanks for reminding me.
