Nice... Original choice. I wish I knew the character, but already my first impression is its got good room for doing something quite different!!!!! and right up your alley.
Look forward to it.
I don't know a lot of the characters people are picking
also....Is the necklace going through his fin? ouch....although you could put a piercing hoop for it to pass though. In which case...It might be good if the necklace was a large solid piercing ring around his neck. Just a thought.
That is looking very promising, nice proportions. Love the face and the "wings" behind ears and arms. This guy is natural a windsurfer :P What's that around his ankles though?
Looking great so far. Can't wait to see some more costume stuff on him.
I've got a semi personal question for you though, Josh. Do you feel your style limits your professional work? I mean, do you do this same style with your professional stuff? I've always wondered how much personal style effects professional opportunities
Freaking awesome work as usual man. I love the huge finns and webbage. No issues here but he is looking a tad older than I thought he was going to be. In your concept I got a real surfer punk vibe and the sculpt makes him look like a guy who has won a few surf championships. hahahaha I hope you understand what I am saying coz I sure as heck don't. Basically in concept he looks about 18-20, In the sculpt he looks about 25-26, He has gone from Surf legend wanna be, to Surf legend. I am really keen to see the next update. Great work man
Im gonna do one of these Individual answer posts: Woogity: THANKS
Scuz: THANKS Glad you dig.
Jeremy-S: That is a good question. I don't think it limits my personal work. I have been lucky enough to work on games that are somewhat conducive to My style anyways. My I think my professional portfolio lets potential employers know what they are getting when they hire Me, if that makes any sense.
CrazyFool: Thanks Man, I am a huge fan of your sculpts. I still need to do a general Love pass on him.
DockRock: Thanks Man. Glad you dig Duncan: Thanks a lot. Yeah I definitely deviated from the Concept a bit. I dunno I just started sketching in Zbrush and he started getting all Heroic. I almost like to Deviate from the Concept in My personal stuff. At work I am usually chained to a concept from somebody else with little or no Iterations. So it's kind of Cathartic to Just Make My own Concept and just do Whatever with it.
Maph: Thanks Man. Style is a tricky word. I am always trying to evolve My style. But there are certain shapes I always Love.
Mxdirector: Hahahaha. Dude That's how I feel looking at some of these other entries. What is the point? I guess the point is to have fun right? It's not about winning or losing but the Journey.
Sinz: Yeah I have always liked this guy from Darkstalkers.
Thanks for the reply, Josh. And that makes sense to me. I've always wanted to put some real style to my work, but I get told time and time again, "realistic, or slightly styled realistic is the ONLY way to get work" So I don't add any TRUE style, but thanks for the reply. I might give it a shot.

My word.

Here is a crappy sketch I did at lunch.
Gonna keep iterating when I get to the sculpt NOTHING IS FINAL.
Thanks for the comments guys!
Texture in this character will do all the magic, do your best =D

Yeah he's gonna be a surfer dude I think.

you know how surfers put the board ties around their ankles? maybe the tentacles could be some kind of organic board tie.
nice silhouette.
I dig it. I like the big fin with the orange.
Still have to do some pouches Because everything is cooler with a utility belt of some some sort.
