Had a play with a few silhouettes but in the end I like the feel of these proportions the most. Done a couple of variations to see what might work best.
I would love to see the hockey stick versions, don't know about the puck, maybe weapon wise you could have a hockey stick with the skates taped onto them with hockey tape.
Kinda get a makeshift halberd out of it. But that just might be my biased hockey fan opinion.
I didnt want to stray away too far from the original in terms of clothing design but at the same time I want to embrace his big bulk with a weapon that looks equally as intimidating. Done a quick zbrush test for proportions and tried some more costume ideas.
I think keeping the design quite simple whilst trying to accentuate the silhouette will be the way to go.
Removing the weapon for the final model. Instead, someone gave me the idea of solely focusing on the idea that he freezes with one hand and then shatters the ice with his gauntlet.
I think it might be cool to have his ice hand be "normal" proportions rather than huge. It would give him a more interesting sillouete, and make his "SMASHING" hand stand out way more.
DUDE that is SWEET. I LOVE THE PROPORTIONS!
i really like both head concepts too, im not sure which one i love more though.
i like the white haired one because it makes him look more wise and just old.
i like the short brown hair one because he looks more intimidating and younge.
Please keep his arm proportions the way they are, it looks SO barbaric!!

This is true, however I want his hand to look like it fills the gauntlet rather than having a massive gauntlet with a tiny hand within it. The icy hand will change the proportions dramatically when its been sculpted .
UPDATE: Starting to block in shapes for the silhouette.
There are similarities in terms of proportion however the character will be very different. However now that you mention it, there are some similarities in terms of shapes but i'm putting that down to pure coincidence :P.
Hmm...maybe I should give Subzero a minigun....:).
EDIT: I think its the right arm which is the culprit (pauldron leading onto the gauntlet). Dw, despite the silhouette this will look quite different.
Still testing things like proportions and style. Missing a lot of little details and still requires a lot of polish however I think the angular approach seems to be working well.
- Things I need to fix:
-Length of fingers (thumb->finger ratio).
- Anatomy of back.
- Additional anatomical detail on rest of body.
- Exaggeration of face (BRINK style?)
- Tension of belt.
- Smaller cracks in ice. Maybe chunk up the ice arm a little more.
- Straps for body pads need applying.
- Proper gauntlet needs making.
- Creases in sash, make it look like a thick heavy material.
- Asymmetry in body pads (remove the pads hanging over the left shoulder).
Update time. Want to try and get the sculpt finished quickly so I can start DW this weekend. Dealt with most of the issues highlighted in the changes post. Definitely think the asymmetry helps the character and now the pads sit nicely on the cloth.
Alright, I think im ready to call the sculpt a day. I don't want to really add any more detail to it as it will end up being too noisy.
Some ideas for the beauty shot, will probably be forming a chunk of ice in one hand from the particles in the air so I will be spending polys on having the air condense into the ice. I think after the competition is finished, I might have a crack at Scorpion and have them face off.
Hey dude- digging this so far, the only thing I'd comment on is that right now the texture around the sash part that goes around the waist kind of looks a lot like the padding you've got going on but stretched. I don't know, maybe it's just personal preference, but I kind of liked it better when it was plain. Maybe you could try a different pattern? This could all just be my opinion though.
Edit: im sure texturing could help with all that too

What i'll be doing with this is giving the sash more of a fur texture/dull specularity whilst the chest pads will be more of a shiny material. The contrast should be a lot more obvious once the texture kicks in.
Been working on a suitable low poly this week. Got it to about 11'500 triangles. 500 should be plenty for additional effects (vapour, water particles, etc).

Good luck m8

Can't wait to see this.

I cant unsee it now!!!
I personally think there's a pretty big difference between these two characters, even in silhouette you can easily differentiate between who's who.
So I would not worry about it Baj, keep doin what yer doin, it'l be cool
+1 Mask_Salesman
The blockout is perfect man, great job.
I want more progress!!!!

Great work mate, your sculpt is nICE

Thanks for the feedback .
Gotta push my sub-zero so he can take on yours, you're halfway done already!
Good luck in DW!
P.S. I'd like to see your version of scorpion now that you said it.
