We're live now. I hope you guys enjoy it. Emil, Ryan and myself have wanted to do this contest for ages now and recently decided now was the perfect time to do so.
A community collaboration is a hell of a thing, we see it with every contest. But by now running one for characters AND environment's we're hopping to see the collaborative effort shoot through the roof with this one.
Enjoy and good luck!

Anyone wanna team up for an environment?
Time for research I say!
Gonna go ahead and post this here. I'm using this as a reference for classic fighting game maps. Seems to have good organization to it.
If someone have an epic idea and need a companion, i'm in!

No 2d.
The Texture Limit for environments in 4096x4096 per material pass. So does that mean Say trash can with 1024x2 diffuse, spec, normals still only counts towards 1024 of the budget or Do all 3 maps added together count towards the budget?
I'm glad it says no replication, forces people to come up with something cool.
I actually already have a few fighting game characters in my project ideas list.
Too bad the specs are realtime it should be etch-a-sketch I would SOOO win!
So glad there aren't any prizes.
oh and I will ... (yes all of you).
Carry on...
omfg. So excited. I u pc.
Hazardous,
I challenge you to do a dude.
Erm... you know what I mean.
Otherwise, I shall not enter.

Team up with an environment artist!
I'm sad there's no 2D section for this, but I guess it'd be cool to team up with an environment artist and hone some skills. Any takers?
he makes a dude disguised as woman and you're screwed.
Goodluck!
Ben
well played good sir.
well played.
but... but... I want to make a character!
That... That.. DUDE look like a LADY!!
THAT... THAT... Dude look like a Lady!
Gotta come up with a theme idea.
Regardless, I'm totally participating!
I guess I should enter this! Would be my first real character... and my first comp! Time to dust off "Sculpting human anatomy in Zbrush" and get ready!
Beat-em-up is played on a long horizontal 3D plane with gameplay implications through out. This is a single frame contest with heavy focus on luscious and creative backdrops while characters play on a limited 2D plane.
I can see where you're coming from: the perspectives are the same. But if that was a concern to anyone this industry wouldn't go anywhere
Either way, as an environment monkey I'm stoked. So much to go from...
Please don't do this. There are a few trans members of polycount, and nothing is more offensive than "it's a trap" jokes (which aren't funny anyway). Any other minority would be off limits, so try to respect this one.
They put a girl in the game, that you beat up. And then when it failed to pass some kind of North American standard due to violence against women, they responded afterwards saying she was actually a transgendered male... allowing it to pass.
lets see: if we do fighting games, all we have to do is take some marvel vs capcom game and we get chris redfield, megaman, dante, *comic book superheroes*. But I can't do the guy from river city ransom or skate from streets of rage 2? it's backwards..
(I mean from BRAWLING perspective)
