Hey guys, just working on my new project here. I decided to make a Steampunk train scene. The setting is a bit post-apocalyptic in a sense that I want the station deserted(with vegetation starting in places), but not completely dead like in fallout. Again the focus is the Steam Engine itself that gets powered by steam and plasma infusers(cylinders around the boiler tank). Yes the scene will be low-poly, and I just have to model a few more assets just to make the scene look more interesting in the end, but for now I'll start texturing. I know my window textures suck, but I just threw it in there so I could start playing with lighting. Feel free to critique and give design suggestions
Thanks Ben, I'll change that.
Yeah it is a WIP, and I will scatter some rubble, add more decay to the building, play some more with lighting. The entry gates at the back will be decaying, and one will be partially destroyed.
Haha thanks guys, and great reference nfrrtycmplx!
Yeah calling a steam train steampunk seems silly, so lets just call it Original Steampunk :P
I was limited to how crazy I can go this time, however next time I'll come up with something more creative I guess. Idea I had in mind is more related to post apocalyptic world - some guys made some old steam engine run and improved it (put some armored sheets in front, improved energy efficiency, and the headlight is also a weapon!!). It's a little hard to explain without visual aid but I'll try to make it look very steampunkish
This was my inspiration :
and here is the simple concept I've developed (over an actual train), I've tried to follow it closely, but I've changed some elements that couldn't physically work.
But there's not a whole lot of victorian in there. The building looks fine, but the train is looking pretty generic-sci-fi, with only the exhaust pipes looking antique.
Check out these images for some more fitting details:
Thanks for Critique!
Well yea I guess the plasma capsules look pretty sci-fi, but I don't know how a steam train itself is not victorian
Well I'll try to block out all the textures first and then make it look more steampunk. Don't forget the setting is post apocalyptic, so in my case Fallout is my best reference :P
Hey alex, just taking a look and the smoke stacks seem a little off from the train. I saw your reference for them. I know we are short on time, just a thought..

Looking good, Really like how its coming along.
Couple things,
I think the railroad ties are a bit close to each other.

I also think that the beams supporting the buildings should be much thicker.
I'm sure this will come with texturing; seams will be needed between the beams.
Any plans for the entrances in the back, tunnels? Open landscape?
Looking good so far!
Ben

@alex 3d - cool stuff, but i'd play around with the size of the smoke stacks and exhaust pipes... make them different sizes and shit yo
