I'm looking for a very basic UV packing tool for Maya. I don't want any kind of unwrapping. I don't want things rotated in a sensible directions. I just want my shells arranged in the most efficient way possible, ideally with the option for a specified amount of bleed. Maya's own UV Layout would do pretty much what I want, if it actually worked as advertised (or at all). I think HeadUS also has decent packing facilities, but we don't really want to pay $300 for one simple function that could be found in a script somewheres.
I've been looking for a while and this is proving to be a far trickier task than I had envisioned.
