Hi folks! I'd like to show you our bachelor project, the animated short The Backwater Gospel. I'm currently in San Francisco doing an internship at Double Fine productions so I'm a little cut off from communication (I don't have a laptop), but I'll get back to you eventually and answer any questions. Hope you folks enjoy it!

I love the hands on all of the characters.
Just got done watching... dood you have no idea how long I've been waiting for this short to come out, and it did not disappoint. The art direction is some of the most interesting, well executed pieces I have ever seen.
Give high fives (or virtual high fives) to everyone who was involved in this. Are there plans to enter this into any film festivals?
I've been waiting to see this ever since you first posted that model. Fine work!
Tasha Harris gave a talk at Animex this week.. and she was awesome, so i hope the company is cool too
I wish the guitar guy didn't have to die though I liked him! Or at least have him resurrect or something.
I didnt even notice that it was 3d until like a third of the way through, it looked more like everything had been hand painting, the visual style was just amazing. I also really liked how the characters had the messy inked look where wrinkles and whatnot would be. Just wonderful.
The music at the beginning was kind of annoying, but i guess it worked.
Just wonderful.
id love to see the game with this unique style
You guys should be very proud. It is a very professional and amazing piece.
I've made a "making of" as part of the exam requirements, but I forgot to bring it along with me so I can't upload it right away. I'll see if I can work something out though. Also, as a little promotion (for the band Sons of Perdition who did the music and shamelessly for myself) feel free to check out the video I did for the song "Psalm of Withering": http://vimeo.com/18472058

Thanks pal, glad you like it! The film will be submitted to a wealth of festivals around the world and hopefully also accepted at a couple of them. I'll let you know when we hear something.

Thanks buddy, much appreciated!

That's good to hear, she was concerned with how well it went. I'll let her know that you like the talk!

I'm happy you feel that way, getting the audience to feel something for the tramp was something we struggled with throughout the production and while I still think it could be improved quite drastically, it's good to hear that we where at least partly successful.

Funny, I haven't hear that angle before, but you're right, the undertaker does have a taxing job. Glad you like the style and even if it wasn't a declared goal of ours to make it look like 2D it's nice to hear that we had you fooled for a while :-)

There's a little bit of construction stuff on my blog if you navigate your way to the character (in the 3D section).

Thanks Kenny, hearing it from you means a lot to me. Thanks for the support throughout.

Hehe, Hell yeah! Give me couple of years and I'll cook something up :-)
Thanks again, everyone! God bless your souls!
Anyway, you guys should be hell-of-a-satisfied with this project! The stuff I saw before the finished product was nice and I really looked forward to this! Keep up the career!
I've got the making of video uploaded now, feel free to check it out at:

However, you should note that it's not intended as a step by step guide to the process but rather a collection of the work I did during the production. Hope you enjoy it though and that it answers some of your questions. But of course you are all free to ask further questions, like, why do I sing so terribly?

Thanks pal, we're definitely happy with the outcome even if there's so many things I'd like to change. Bubba was certainly a difficult character to recreate in 3D due to his fleshy design that didn't go so well with the paper like look of the rest of the cast. However, I do think that Mads Simonsen who created the Bubba 3D character did a good job of it, especially really nailing his face.
Wow.
WOW.
That was unbelievably good!! I loved everything about it. Even your making-of video!! The art direction is my favourite part of this. Amazing work, thank you for sharing!!
I hope this will premiere on filmfestivals because this must be seen by others!
*thumbs up*
The only shot I'd change is the rainbow-shot in the end - the bright and saturated rainbow doesn't fit the image, maybe an ill-faded sun cracking through the clouds would have made a better impression there. Nitpicking anyways...
