Wolf W.I.P

Hello Polycount, I am a second year multimedia student in Ontario,Canada. I have been focusing mainly on CG , but it is difficult to make the time to practice more. as I have web design, graphic design, and sound production courses as well. This is my first W.I.P thread and would enjoy any and all criticism.

I have been asked to do an animation for the beginning of a documentary on college hockey in Canada. The animation will consist of a wolf in the middle of a hockey arena, howling, and will then fade out into their logo which had the wolf in it. I am not sure if I am allowed to post their logo, but I am pretty sure I can link to their website http://www.thunderwolveshockey.com/ (logo is in top left)

I am still unsure if I am going to use a realistic hair solution or sculpted hair for the final image, the client was pretty open to that as I pointed out I may not have the skills to get a photo realistic hair effect on the wolf.

First things first, welcome to polycount!
I'll cut to the point and not beat around the bush.

The base mesh looks pretty good except for a few areas. The paw have long fingers which really aren't the shape of wolf toes/paws, very odd.

There is a weird transition in the chest where it meets the leg, it seems like the topology could flow better here.

The sculpt is very scratchy and random there doesn't seem to be a common grain you would expect to see on a dog or wolf.

I'm not a big fan of the default zbrush material, it really doesn't work well on a lot of models and makes things look noisy.

The skin around the eyes seems not to cup and envelop the eyes but its more of a slight depression a sphere is sitting in.

The nose looks to have a moat around it to define it instead of blending from bald, to short hair. Most of the transition is in the color change not really in the surface of muzzle.

The teeth seem more like little stalagmites than they do canine teeth.

Hope that helps more than it hurts! I wouldn't bother pointing anything out if I didn't see any potential. Good luck!

Awesome, thanks for taking the time to look at it and point that stuff out, I appreciate it. I still have about a month to finish modelling, and animating it, so I will be posting some more progress in the coming days/weeks.
