why do they keep trying to cast Peter Parker as a douche bag? I hope i am wrong by his acting... but in my mind Peter Parker in essence is like the cartoon in the 90's. square jaw, more on the handsome good looking, built and kinda preppy. but i guess everyone has a different perception of him.
You mean the exact opposite of what the character of Peter Parker has always been, and originally conceived as? He is not a douchebag, he is, what some of us call, a 'nerd'.
yea, Rhys Ifans is playing conners/the lizard. should be fuckin awesome, no more boring goblin stuff. hopefully if they make a sequel they just focus on having a badass/huge version of venom to do him proper justice.
I can see what you guys are talking about, and i agree. Having Peter Parker be a regular Joe and becoming an outstanding hero is one thing. But come on... Tobi Macguire in spiderman 3 with this emo look that tried to be tough was just lame.
This new cast seems ok, Peter Parker still look a little bit like he came out of N'Sync. Sorry... but the highlights and hairstyle just do nothing for me. but really! i hope that i am wrong and that this guy knows what he is doing and spiderman turns out to be great! cuz i love the comic and the cartoon! and i love the character and idea of spiderman.
In the end i am just trying to get my hopes up for this movie by letting go of how they the characters look, before i see them play the actual character in the movie. I enjoyed the trailer. I think it has the right stuff so far. But i guess i'll have a more educated opinion once i see more.
Wow, much darker tone than I was expecting. But it looks great! I'm super excited for this now. I felt the other spider-man movies got a bit too campy for their own good.
The Spiderman movie was the last super hero movie I saw (other than the Dark Knight), I don't understand the overwhelming popularity of these movies. I'm not shitting on them, just saying I don't get why so many people think they're so great, when for me they're incredibly boring, predictable, and have no characters I care about at all.
I get that it's fun to watch your favorite comic characters doing what they do on the big screen, but beyond that, what's the appeal?
haha Paul...I just watched this and it was 30 seconds in and asked my producer if we were watching a Twilight movie.
This one looks...meh. First person CG world running doing nothing all that interesting. I didn't see any "darker" tones personally. This looks like a WB made for television movie and after it's over, a new episode of Gossip Girl!
I was waiting for that. Honestly though, I really like the idea of a camera from spidey's perspective. Not constantly, but a few shots would be cool. Of course, I'm sure it will be 3D too.
Well, if you saw 'The Social Network' you'd know that Garfield's hair is always about twice the size of his head.
Anyway, yeah, the teaser doesn't look great to me. Do we really need to see the origin yet again? In all honesty 'getting bitten by a radioactive spider' isn't exactly the strongest plot point put to paper.
Also, that first person scene looked way too evidently CG to me. Especially that brick wall he climbs. I mean, it's well done CG, but I still think it's a bit off.
At first I was a little worried they were rebooting the franchise this early, but I must say I'm excited for it now, I'm hoping they are different enough. The first 3 felt like hopelessly in love spider man in current day, real universe New York City, it worked and the movies were good. But I'm really hoping this is comic style, alternate reality, awesomeness that competes with the new Batman movies.
I think they are focussing a bit much on the parents angle, but hey, its not been done in the films before, and drives the character, so whatever. Looks cool. Should be pretty awesome in 3D.
Now this is what the first spiderman movie should of been like. God knows who cast Tobey Maguire. The kid's got less expressions that a plank of wood. He always has that confused constipated look to him.
Endded up watching the trailer quite a few times last night. So thats a good sign of things to come on my end.
Hmm. The new trailer made it look better than it has previously, but I'm thinking it's still a DVD hire. Maybe a new release rather than a weekly on tight-arse Tuesday
New trailer. Not just a regular trailer but a Super Trailer. Exclamation point.

Snide comments aside, my interest becomes more piqued (if that makes any kind of sense) with each subsequent trailer. I was resistant early on because it'd be nice to see Sony's profits sufficiently low that they'll hand the Spiderman license back to Marvel, but it doesn't look like this'll be the movie to do it. I suppose given how much money these superhero movies drag in, it'd have to be an amazingly terrible or controversial movie to make sufficiently mediocre sales.
things turning me off:
the SFX are bad... i mean REALLY bad. wtf was up with the fire on the car, seriously? and the lizard just looks so... plastic.
another "omg my parents are gone, angst angst angst" movie.
the trailer reminds me of baysplosions.
things turning me on:
they finally got spidermans attitude down
they finally got parkers attitude down
they seem to have captured spiderman for who he was: fast, agile, strong, smart, but not OVERLY super-powered... he still has to rely on his wits and his gadgets to get the job done rather than "lolzmutation".
I'm avoiding this 'super trailer'. I'm pretty well sold on seeing it. It may not be opening weekend, just to see what people say, but I'm pretty sure we'll be watching it in the theaters.
this movie went from being "yea i guess I'll see it" to looking like its going to be the suprise awesome hit for me this summer I wasnt expecting. looks fantastic, love the color pallete, how spidey is always the most saturated thing on screen against a mostly cool blue backdrop in the shots shown. cant wait, this summer is kicking ass for movies!
Parker is a nerd and before getting his powers he is constantly picked on and bullied. Now he becomes super strong and the dominant one so how do you think he would act? Most nerds would probably be just as bad if not worse. Gaining that type of strength and power so quickly would def give you a bit of that attitude.
yeah, I think that looks pretty bad, personally. Probably wait till DVD.
I don't think it looks bad, but it doesn't look like anything new. At least with the second Hulk they kept the origin story to just the opening credits... I don't need to see Peter Parker go through all this again.

True though that might be, it doesn't make the character any more appealing. I think we can all agree that Macguire was too soppy in his role of Spiderman, but I think ideally what they needed was a happy medium between decent chap Macguire and obnoxious jerk Garfield. Maybe they're saving that for the next reboot.
Eh i find rotten tomatoes to be by far the best scoring system ive seen.
Dont think of it as an aggregate of scores, think of it as a percentage chance you'll like it.
Because that is what it is based on.
There are a ton of films ive seen with a score of 50% on rotten tomatoes ive seen that i love but i also agree with because yeah i think only 50% of people would like it.

Nothing beyond that, for me. That's enough.
Huge Spiderman fan here. I was skeptical at first, but the new trailer has me back on-board. Wheeeeeee!
edit: Pshaw, that scene was awesome.
HAHAHAHA that guy looks like a fat Keifer Sutherland with glasses!

The roof scene was OK, good from his perspective (come on 3d glasses!). Good to see what direction they take this this guy as the lead.

I'm bumping it back to cheap DVD hire.

I can't wait to see it.
clip was good, looks like early footage though with the dodgey sound effects and weird shot setup.

"It's an efficient piece of corporate film-making, but nothing more."
If that's counted as a positive tomato then I would be very dubious about their scoring system.
