Hey I am currently learning how to use alpha maps in my texturing techniques. I have ran into two quick snags.
First whats a good way of getting your base alpha maps down. Do you generate them from your diffuse or is there a way to bake them in xnormal. I have had success doing that for my fence by baking a base texture in xnormal and manipulating it in photoshop.
Secondly with the xolius shader applied I managed to get this.

The problem is after I make the technique to two sided the backside is really dark.

Anyone know what would be causing this? I think it has something to do with my diffuse texture because when I turn it off the whole backside becomes dark.
Also if you have any good tutorials on making fences or other items that require extensive use of alpha maps or deal with the generation of alpha maps feel free to post a link.
Thanks

You can post it in Xoliul's Shader thread here.
3D programs have issues with lighting them correctly unless the vertex normals are adjusted.
