I fixed the mirroring and the shadow strangeness that was happening on some models.
Allowing people to host their own files and simply submitting urls is something I will probably implement soon.
EDIT:
heres a list of the new stuff:
Alpha channel of diffuse map can be used for material alpha.
Alpha channel of specular map can be used for glossiness map.
Added fresnel map with sliders.
Added material brightness slider.
Am I noob or what? I have tried to test it with blender export obj, the site starts to flicker and wont upload the file.
Just throwing in a bit of general info here, blender exports .objs and meshes in general @ 1/100 of max's default scale... this leads to problems in udk/ce2 and so on since those rebuild the meshes and tend to delete stuff
This is amazing....I know people complain about installs with the internet but what better way to get feedback on your models then actually seeing the models....lol ace work man! all it needs now is a wireframe mode, unlit mode, nrms only etc haha
I've got a camera control script if you need it (though I know this is easy enough to do). https://dl.dropbox.com/u/15441325/WebPlayer_CB.html
I also saw a free viewer out in the webs somewhere that has buttons for switching skins and whatnot, but can't find it anywhere now :P
Yeah this stuff could really standardize how people pimp their stuff - but for that we need cameracontrols and wireframe overlay modes etc! Also, is the viewport resolution customizable? I can imagine wanting more bigness. So, noob question, how would one embed this on ones site?
You can rotate the camera by clicking and dragging. I had someone say they werent able to do that so maybe its kinda broken. I posted embedding code on the page before this.
But is there a way to put the viewer itself on your own website? I dont think you understand what i mean. I want users to be able to upload their models straight to my site, rather than uploading to your site and then linking in my site.
Id rather not just give the source out, besides it takes a bit of understanding of how it works to even set it up. The idea is that its a service like imageshack or youtube, where you submit your content and then embed or link to it externally. Also distributing the code would be messy because its still very unfinished.

Pretty f' in awesome man. Now that marmo is a paid program and I'm too lazy to buy it... Might wanna use this form now on. http://meshbin.com/m.php?id=4d050c391eb61
A Mac-10 I souped up a while ago. The only thing that annoys me really is the glow.
Is it possible to have it display double sided faces as well?
I'd love for it to be able to display a wireframe and a flat shaded view. if not a wireframe then at least a slot to drop a diffuse of the UV map and a toggle. And some pan/tilt/zoom would be glorious.

I can't rotate the cam with my Wacom stylus, but that's minor. What I would like to see is a full 3D camera control (rotate, pan, zoom).
Now I just need to get my work to unblock meshbin.com...
Keep up the good work, Keen! I'm with LRoy-- play this right and it'll be huge. If it could be more personalized like Youtube, Vimeo, or Photobucket, wherein users have accounts and personal galleries, then my head a'splode.

So is there any chance the source code will be released? Or not at all?
I think he already answered your question... Besides, if you were working on debuting a website like Youtube for 3D models, would you want to give away the code so others could do the same thing?
It's actually really easy to set up a model browser in Unity so anyone can do that if that's what they want. There's code for one lurking the pc forums somewhere but can't seem to find it anymore and also another on the web somewhere that has buttons for changing textures/models which is really cool.
But you'd have to put them up somewhere and build them for each 'scene' (model, groups of models). Unity is free and getting models into it is cake, literally put them in a folder, open new scene, drag in, place lights...
Keen has a different take with the upload thing so I can see why he'd want to keep the code, he should be the benefactor of that if something comes out of it.
The idea and execution on this are both exceptionally awesome!
There is just one thing tough; something called DX ripper. I was working on a similar idea and project stalled around the point where we tried to figure out how to avoid this issue..
my test http://meshbin.com/m.php?id=4d19b221c2a96, it seems to me that the specular is kinda intense, and that I have to set it very low, or my map is probably too bright?
Another issue I had is that I have a separate texture for the fur with alpha, but im not sure how I can upload both meshes and 2 different materials.
Love it! It crashed my browser a couple of times but removing my cookies solved the problem.
It could be awesome if there was something like this that worked on a smartphone.
Okay, come on, this thing is awesome, need some updates!! ^_^
ALSO, you can make the display size of the model window / the model itself bigger if you zoom in with yur BROWSER...it doesn't degrade in quality, and you can make the window really big and still move the model around etc and it looks great. If you use Google Chrome or firefox, hold CTRL and use your mouse wheel to zoom it in and out. It works.
Xoliul: Do you know about the Paste URLs option? I don't think Keen has explicitly mentioned it, but it's a link at the bottom of the page. It allows you to reference files by url, which could be your own URL you are hosting...

Sorry if I'm killing your space, just wanted to test again as someone said smoothing groups were an issue.
I can confirm that is the issue with z fighting. I unchecked smooth groups on obj export and it's all good now.
My previous scale was about 4 meters tall, now it's 6, I don't think scale had anything to do with it in this case.
wire-frame mode?
This could give all 3d forums a great new feature.

Second the call for support for gloss maps, also (though my obj came from one I exported for Marmoset) my character seems flipped. Any ideas why?
:thumbup::thumbup: Slap on the back though, stirling work!

this could blow up pretty big if you do it right

I threw an old model into it to test it out.

Thats awesome, its pretty nice so far, still playing with it before I put any links in my portfolio though.
weeeeee

Or do you want to host the entire thing?
I couldn't help myself
Also, since it was bumped, yeah ability to host the final scene and to toggle wires would be awesome.
But it'd be SUPER if we could remove the strain off your server and host it ourselves!
heres mine ....smoothing went gay tho
