Tutorials are largely worthless in my experience. The summits can be good if you have a very specific focus, for example I'm really looking forward to the Social Game Summit this year.
The real draw of GDC is the main conference pass as that's where you will be able to sit in on the relevant and (usually) interesting lectures.
tell me someone is going to the tech artist panel Might ask over at the tech-artists site if they mind putting the slides up. Hope this GDC online thing happens soon.
Thanks for the advice guys. I might just have to settle for picking up an Expo Pass again this year. I didn't really want to, I did that last year and found it somewhat lacking. I really wanted to go to a lot more of the conference sessions. But the Main Conference pass is a whopping $1000. If I just get the Expo pass I will be able to afford a hotel for the three days I would be there.
As to the parties, most of those you don't actually need a pass to attend. Just talk around and you can find out where all of them are. I actually met someone last year who was developing an Android app to map out where the various parties were located and scheduled.
Just to let you guys know, I recently found out I'm not going to be able to attend GDC this year. Does someone else want to take the liberty to get this meetup figured out?

I was a douche and bought my plane ticket for the 2nd and not the first, looks like I am going to miss MOST of Wednesday as I don't get in until 4:30 and it will take me longer to get from SFO to the Moscone.

Heya Marcus, yea normally we setup a location and do dinner and drinks and shoot the shit 2 yrs ago we got like almost 50 people to show up to CPK. Cpk was not happy with us at all.
How does wed night work for everyone to do dinner at cpk? we can establish a time once we establish a day.
just did a search on google. there is one just a block north of the convention center, and another one a few blocks west. id imagine its the one closest. wednesday night sounds great.
I'm relatively new to polycount but would love to meet everyone in person this year at GDC. Kind of get a chance to say hey to everyone that has been able to help me so much this year. I also just found out i get to go. Not wanting to be a party crasher, is any polycount member welcome to meet up?

Well I know some of the decent artists over at GA are meeting up at chevy's across from the Moscone @ 6:30 if anyone is interested in going to that as well. We did CPK few years ago on thursday night because it seemed to work best for everyone sessions and tutorial schedule it also allowed people to attend the awards show. Does thursday work or do we want to join up with the ga guys? Let me know.
I don't know what our group will be doing wed night, but i'll make sure to wear the green tooth, so if anyone see's a young, fat, pale canadian wearing the colours, 9/10 it's going to be me
so it looks like the GA guys will be going to Chevys, but they are full up on reservations.. im still down to go somewhere good wednesday night.. been looking up places all day (mostly from man vs food and other travel channel sites), but ill be getting there pretty early tomorrow but i dont actually go to the conf til wednesday.. so maybe me n some friends can do some lookin around, unless there are other suggestions?
Yeah, I'm absolutely fine just kicking it somewhere else on Wed. I don't really want to commit to anything solid (like booking a seat at some restaurant) as I'm not 100% on who I'll run into and all of that - SO - if you see me and want to grab a delicious adult beverage, or roll with an impromptu posse...I'm down.
Anything actually get solidified? Seriously anybody who tries to plan something on Wed around 6-8 has not been to the GDC much - The awards and lots of parties are that night.

I believe the one CPK get together a cuople years ago was on a thursday, so no worries of missing the awards.
Really i'm just posting to see if artists actually came together on something and pinned down a place and a date . haha.
Well, atleast I know i'll see Spacemonkey/MoP at their talk and say hey. Outside of that, besides the one year that tumorboy set things up (and got screwed over) its really just been chaos.. every year. That or i guess you have to be like.. part of a club or something cause i'll find out about it way after the fact. Whatever. Its all good. I'll just keep my ear to the ground for a gathering.

Yea, like tlovemark said, Lefty's was the spot last year: real laid back, really nice atmosphere and you don't need reservations. There's food until midnight, but if you get there late, there's a jack-in-the-box just up the street. That's where we had the big meet-up last year and it worked out really well. So how about Lefty's Wed. night after the awards?
