So, i've been lurking around, posting a bit lately, and I thought it might be time for me to post some stuff and get some feedback.
I've been doing 3D, on/off, for the last 1.5 years, mostly trying to create shiny renders of spheres that would make me go "I am frakking awesome!", but I've only recently started actually
modeling stuff.
So, this is the base model of some sort of rhino/hippo hybrid creature:
And some wires:
Currently, the model is just below 6k tris and it's still missing some things (a mouth comes to mind :P)
I have pretty limited experience with modeling stuff like this, so I would really appreciate some advice and general critique. The only thing I've made sure of while modeling is to keep the model mostly (if not entirely) in quads, just in case I want to run it through Mudbox at some point.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Daniel J

looking pretty cartoony with all the wide shapes and smooth surfaces
My goal is to do some handpainted/stylized textures later on, so cartoony hopefully works to my advantage. It does need a bunch more detail though.
Thanks for the reply
I like it <_<
he could use bigger ears
Hope that'll do
Could you show us some reference photos or just simple sketches so we can get an idea of what you are aiming for? This is also great for yourself since that forces you to make decisions and think about the thing as a whole.
og modeling , try always to see how far you can get with the least polies as possible, and then add loops later to refine form. Makes the whole thing ALOT easier.
But yeah, he's cute
I'm thinking of making a newer, more "focused" concept sketch, since the original concept was never really intended to be used for modeling. (Were talking an 8 year old sketch here :P). The model itself is also starting to differ heavily from the sketch because of some things i was unhappy with.
Anyway, thanks for the pointers, it's much appreciated
The new concept. I decided to go in a different direction with it. Please excuse my sucky drawing skills:
I'm still not quite sure about the horns, but i'm pretty happy with the rest.
Anyway, I'll start the new model sometime tomorrow and take it from there.
Looks good! I'd put some simple scale design on his back or something or dirty him up like he's been in the dirt for a while
The tail and feet aren't done. Other than that i'm pretty happy with it.
