Get well soon man. A friend of mine was caught on fire while working on his car and his carburetor exploded. He survived, but he's never been the same since because of the physical pain he endured on a daily basis. Burns take a very, very, very long time to heal. Just try your best to be patient and keep us posted!
This made me laugh cuz my new hand skin is coming from my thigh... which is hairy...
...hairy palms...
Everyone else, much love. I'll post pics as I go if you guys dont mind. Heres my hand all wrapped up (you can see this netbook in the background with this post being written):
Thats also my donor thigh in the pic. We're living in a hotel until we can find a new place to live.
Besides the pain, the worst part is how dependent I have to be on others. I can't shower, eat, get dressed and so on without Gails help. I already knew this, but I'm lucky to have her. She even typed boring emails to the PC crew for me last night.
What's up with that? You still have to finish your evil genius forest base; guess you can have rest for now, but you better get cracking once your hand is healed!
Get well soon Adam I hope the guys at Relic give you plenty of support. Good luck with your surgery!
Fuck man I'm sorry. It's going to be a pretty challenging time ahead too I think, with you being so dependant on others for basic tasks. Best of look in your rehabilitation Adam.
(P.S. Tell the insurance guys it was a 3D HDTV tv you had ;P)
This is probably horribly unimportant in comparison to everything else going on with apartments and all that but: Fire didn't kill your hardrive did it? and if it did, you did have backup right?
That's probably what I would have worried the most about if this ever happened to me
Anyway, speedy recovery and good luck with the thigh-skin hand
Once mild mannered Adam Bromell; Environment artist by day, his hand, maimed in a tragic fapcident; Armed only with his sword, and the power of telepathy He lashes out against a world of porn directors who know not the power they wield, He is "Thighhander", There can bate only one!
What if they take the skin from a radioactive thigh! he might gain the powers... of.. uh, a thigh...
-left hand ok
-no pen in right hand, thumb is dead 'for now'
-grapeseed oil and a bit of canola. 8 cups total.
-harddrives are fine, same with all electronics i believe
-this might be good excuse to get ipad?
-wiping bum with left hand is hilariously awkward
-i love u guys
Hope you get better quick Adam! Glad it didn't turn out worse than it already did. I busted my right wrist in high school and had 3 months to learn how to draw with my left hand so I know how it feels like to lose ability in the talent hand.
Wow, I read that article and thought that it has to be painful, up there with one of my worst nightmares. Seeing that it is you is alittle shocking. I wish you the best Adam.
I'll hit you up on facebook as well but I have a space pilot (one of the better ones they sell) that I'm not currently using. I could send it up your way. You could give it a good test run if you like before spending any money really and then just send it back my way.
Did you feel it much? I have heard burns are usually kind of numbing at that point. Regardless, it is pretty scary, and probably painful, but it is also kind of cool. You have a good story to tell your grandkids.
Or you can make the Necronomicon ex Mortis out of the skin.
That's terrible. Good luck with recovery. I've had surgery on my arm twice so I know the drill even though our conditions differ. FWIW, our animator was hit-and-run earlier this year while riding his bike and had to have surgery on his right hand. He switched it up to using the mouse left hand for a while.

Without a doubt, and hopefully it helps with a speedy recovery!

Did you have insurance to cover anything~?
Adrien
How did you end up getting your hand burnt in the fire anyhow? Mad grab for the tablet? :P
I'm also glad to hear that you didn't have to pay anything for it, those things can be VERY expensive.
Keep us updated !

Its the Hand herpes.
Let this be a lesson to you boys! Use protection, even for just a little game of "stinky pinky", lest you end up like poor Adam here.
Get well soon bud!
Awesome man. That must be a releaf if anything. Can you move your fingers at all? It seems like you can still use the hand to hold a pen.

now you'll have to change your username to like Thighhand or sumthin.
Do you think you'll try switching hands? How long do they think it will take to heal? Or are they pretty much taking it one step at a time?
That's probably what I would have worried the most about if this ever happened to me

As mentioned already. Your left hand is still good? You can probably use it for your 3d programs. Just not doing precise work like PS.
Actually with my left hand I find a trackball works better than a mouse.
PS On the positive side.. Be glad it didn't get your eyes..
Don't know if had would made any difference but I always cook with olive oil.
Hope you get better soon, loosing function of a hand (especially if that's the hand you use) I can imagine is no bueno.

i guess we should do a "wipe with ya left" week to share your pain
we could even provide live streams !
edit: looked at your photo again, damnit, it hurts just looking at it.
What about those who already use their left hands to wipe their butts tho?
Good luck with the surgery!
?
*but seriously, that is terrible. I hope you get better soon! Burns are the worst.
so long as they have someone else make the prosthetic skin to LOOK like SKIN... yeah, this would be the shit!
you totally need to get a bedit!
switch to right hands. Opposite wipe week.
Frogpad
Nostromo
Logitech G13
Maybe one of those and a 3d connexion that Joshua Stubbles suggested earlier might do the trick.
Good luck with the surgery.
I would definately try to get used to using my left hand to use a mouse and such, when you get better you would be twice as fast!
Good luck with the skin graft.:)
i hope you got new power!
PAWA
Wait.......you wipe?
