I've been playing it during my commute this week and it's pretty awesome.
The main game takes place over 20 years, and after playing it for an hour or two each day this week I'm about halfway through that time (The PlayStation just launched!)
So far I've been trying to recreate the history of my company to very comedic ends, I also developed World of Warcraft for the GameBoy which received critical acclaim, but still no game of the year
It's really good fun, my only complaint is that it feels a little too "easy" in the sense that I rarely lose money on games. I even tried to pick crappy matchups (Golf Board Game, Marathon Simulation RPG, etc) for crappy platforms and I still almost make my money back.
I'm already looking forward to my next playthrough so I can try to develop my own console.

Well, if you're only up to the Playstation's release, then that makes sense. It was a lot easier to break even on games back in the 8-bit and 16-bit era. For starters, the development costs were much lower. Perhaps more importantly, the demand for more games during that era was much higher, and the competition was much smaller. It wasn't until after the Playstation that game budgets started to spiral out of control and marketing became more important than development.
If it continues to be too easy to make money back on your games, then you will know that something is broken.
game is fun, but i must admit i suck at managing a game company :P
my workers are burnt out, make games rarely get rated better than 4/10 and i have been wasting too much cash on crap :P
4years in. but i think i'm going to restart now with the new gained experience
@xoliul: no i think you can only hire up to 4 people, but you can hire outside people to do the character design, sound design, etc.
edit: nm, i just moved into a larger office and hired more people
I just watched the video for this game over on Kotaku. Now I must have / play it. When I get off work today I'll fire up my Mac Mini, plug in my iPod Touch, and spend $4 on this title. I've been following the game industry closely for over a decade. This title looks like its right up my alley.
I am become kottick. For I am constantly trying to min-max my company into finding every way to turn a franchise into a super great profit, just earning money is not enough, I have to earn a shit ton of money.
Also I fired this guy who had been with the company since the beginning.

One way is probably to use the career change manual thing. I have a dude called Walt Sidney , lvl 4 hacker, lvl 5 hardware engineer among things. Once i've boosted his hacker to 5 i'll turn him into an engineer again.
really, really liking it, but I'm not sure how to get new classes. only still have the starting four, except my new hire Miggy Shiamoto or whatever, who is a director. I've also seen Producer for sale but I had no open positions. this game is ADDICTIVE.

Just do like any good head of studio would do, and fire someone from the trenches.
Different types of applicant searchs seems to yield different kind of jobs and qualities it seems.
and some jobs seems to become available if you level some guy up in a combination of jobs via job switch item.
i've been fireing and hiring anyone i can find, checking if i can retrain them to a hardware eng.
even hired the wrestlerguy and the bear who escaped from the zoo. no luck yet.
usually you can chose between the 4 base classes, sometimes only 3, and sometimes director or producer isntead of one of the 4 base classes - but never hardware eng.
how the hell do you get a damn hardware guy?!?!
the most ive sold is 6mil units any combination i should try? and how the fuck do i get a Hardware Engineer! i just spent 25mil to liscense another system
This game should come with a health warning. I literally played for more hours today than not I think.
My failing company hired 'Stephen Jobson' and went on to huge profit and acclaim
It does seem rather tricky to get insane profits though. The sequel to my smash hit dating sim sold 12 million (that's a line I never thought I'd say) and I was still way off being able to license the final few consoles.
I'm told you have to have an employee at level 5 in all jobs to unlock hardware engineer.
I've not been able to get that far yet.
This is true. Amy is my hardware engineer now and she started as a designer. she's now lv 5 everything but hacker, and her stats are INSANE now. I'm at the 15th year but she's almost 400 in one of her stats and 200-350 in all the rest.
my best selling game was a swimsuit action game called bikini bitches which sold 60 million copies, 20 million in the first week, and made like 200 million profit.

But I think that will result in me breaking my phone in half and screaming at the top of my lungs as well
Just hit #3 in my critically acclaimed fantasy adventure series.
I also hired some really expensive hacker-class type super developer, who I suggest might look like this guy:

I believe you upgrade your office twice, 4->6->8 seats.
Need more android love!
Agreed

Just as planned.
i have yet to find a hardware engineer, tho. how the hell do you get one of those?

I have someone that's been a hardware engineer, yet I cant change their job to it. no clue why not .
OH EM GEE just like real life!
Yep, juuuuust like real life.

then again, she's also 4k to keep hired :X
This looks addictively fun. :poly127:
Good times!
When the game is complete and the notification window pops up (where you click 'ship') the option to 'change title' is there.
Anyone know if you can delete game slots?
I found a free version for the PC on the developers site, but its all in Japanese:

Hawken-san uses TRANSLATE
Success!
