Aloha, guys n gals.
I'm going to be hitting up my local (and maybe not so local) companies
seeking employment as a modeler this upcoming Monday. My portfolio link is here:
http://wailingmonkey.com/3dmodeler/
I'm currently showing character-centric pieces, but I've also included
some other items near the bottom. Additionally, I'd like to not 'repel'
any prospective job offers by making a boneheaded mistake.
I'd love to hear suggestions relating to how I can better showcase what I've
got. I'm also open to hearing any other suggestions you may have in general.
And of course, if you know of anyone I can contact that could utilize my
services please send me a message! :poly142:
P.S. In your opinion, is it a good idea to link to my Animation Mentor
blog, given that I'm so early in the coursework? My thought behind
including it is to show I'm motivated and have (will have) additional
skills besides merely 'modeler'. What say you?

that low poly head is kinda creepy tho lol
can see what they want immediately. Wonder what general consensus is on this...
PredatorGSR...thanks for the heads-up (and bugger). Youtube links screw up the quality,
so I guess I'll see about getting it into streaming embedded .flv's (with option to
download)
appreciate the feedback thusfar guys!
and glad to hear moar.
*edit* Quicktime issue fixed, hopefully.
The holla character has a lot of character and is probably your best one. The blond one feels like the proportions are off and is a bit weird looking, though that isn't helped by the fact that it isn't posed. I think you just need a lot more character work and some more interesting and challenging characters before you'll spark the interest of companies. I started out as a character artist before I switched to environments, and even with 4-5 solid but not amazing characters it wasn't enough to get responses from companies.
Right now if I was looking at a current gen game, your characters might qualify as background characters, but none are detailed enough or interesting enough to be a character that the camera would focus on. I would recommend looking at the main characters of a bunch of AAA games, and creating characters that are interesting enough to be a main character.
I'm not really looking to be the rockstar of the company, so doing background
characters would be just peachy.
I think you hit the nail on the head, tho, in that I need to build
from better, more exciting concept work. (or at least add in a bit
more 'character' to my characters)
Cheers, dood.
