Hi,, ok so I recently watched this video:
http://vimeo.com/7341615
In the tutorial, the instructor shows how to match 3d geometry to a photo.
somewhere in the beggining, he says that if this were a video, u will be able to use some "super powerful software" to capture of from the video 3d information. Ive never heard of this before, and I don't know the technical terms for this, and I have no idea how this works. If someone is able to explain this I would be very thankful

You might be interested in PhotoSculpt.
If you want the virtual camera matched with recorded footage from a video, there are tools such as MatchMover (now included in Maya, Softimage, etc) to help match the movement.

If it's just a still matte painting projected onto geometry, it shouldn't matter how the virtual camera is moved, as long as the initial placement is matched.
or
Augmented Reality?
note: There are more threads on augmented reality just do a search.

Also some more info on MatchMover which is also available to anyone on subscription.

There are a few other options out there too, I couldn't imagine anyone doing it by hand... well I can but they are working on Sci-fi specials like "MEGA NUCLEAR POLARBEAR VS GIANT KILLER ANTZ!"
This is a really cool thing to play with im assuming
boujou's got a really good reputation, and is laid out to walk you through everything you need to do. Also tended to give me the better result (compared to MatchMover) when I had to match footage with heavy motion blur.
Just some other options.
