Admittedly, character modeling is a weak point for me, and I know theres a million floating around out there, but that doesn't mean they're all good. Can anyone point me towards one that was particularly helpful to them, or one that they feel is particularly great?
Ideally, I'd like to model in max, maybe do a bit of sculpting and bake out some normal maps for a low poly character, but i'm not going to be picky here. I'd be happy with a character modeled and textured(maybe even better for getting me started).
Thanks guy.

i wish there was a more simpler way of guiding the person through a tutorial instead of just giving tid bits of info and throwing a pallet in your face having you do most of the guess work yourself.
i couldn't even get past the feet section cause it was poorly presented.
in a nutshell for me it was lacking ALOT of info (aka Measurments xyz ect ect)
but hey, thats my opinion; i've only been doing this for about 10 months...
It's no excuse, even if you've only been doing it for 10 months, I started learning game-art from scratch 14 months ago. You just have to sit down, focus and try til you get it right, my first character tutorial was the Joan of Arc as well, and I completed it within 2 weeks.
It's a great tutorial, you learn a lot especially workflow and how to use Max. Sure it's not really step-by-step, but there ain't a lot of tutorials like that.
I recommend the book : 3ds Max Modeling for Games
It's pretty decent to get things going, it has a good character tutorial as well.
My first character tutorial as well. I had to apply it to maya, but to this day its still one the finest resources I remember using, great technique and technical points made in it.
thanks man ill look into that book!
