i have a feeling it will not be anything new or interesting.
(tbh, I feel like it's going to be Bioshock three and has something to do with everything coming to the surface.
Doubt it'll be Bioshock 3. Im leaning towards a new IP, but System Shock 3 is a possibility aswell. In any event, it'll be awesome - because Ken Levine is super awesome.
I'm not sure if the quote is accurate, but Take Two been quoted as saying it's something entirely new. It was phrased in a somewhat ambiguous way I thought, but judge for yourself:
"Bioshock creator Ken Levine, who was freed from working on the sequel (to bioshock) in order to produce an original title that could become another franchise."
sloooow loading. But it's loading at least, that's something. I was expecting the entire website to be down, really.
Damn, if I didn't know any better I'd say this was just teasing Bioshock 3, what with it being underwater. Gaah, LOAD.
BioShock Infinite is a first-person shooter currently in development at Irrational Games, the studio behind the original BioShock (which sold over 4 million units worldwide). Set in 1912, BioShock Infinite introduces an entirely new narrative and gameplay experience that lifts players out of the familiar confines of Rapture and rockets them to Columbia, an immense city in the sky.
Former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt has been sent to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman imprisoned in Columbia since childhood. Booker develops a relationship with Elizabeth, augmenting his abilities with hers so the pair may escape from a city that is literally falling from the sky. DeWitt must learn to fight foes in high-speed Sky-Line battles, engage in combat both indoors and amongst the clouds, and harness the power of dozens of new weapons and abilities
Huh. Not that the game sounds bad or anything, but it has fuckall to do with Bioshock. Slapping a familiar franchise tag on it just to get more hits/sales/whatever is lamesauce.

Are you kidding?
Bioshock 2 had fuckall to do with bioshock. This is the writer and team of bioshock working on a new game in the same universe.

WTF are you talking about? Bioshock 2 was set in Rapture with Big Daddies, Little Sisters and all the accoutrement of the original Bioshock. Bioshock Infinite apparently has none of that. Maybe there will be plasmids, but flying around brightly lit skies is a far fucking toss from creeping around a decrepit underwater city.
The irony now is that now bioshock fans will be over the successor to the game that was the successor to the game that was a dissapointment to the systemshock fans.
Best part is if this game actually goes back to the systemshock roots, and the cycle WILL BE COMPLETE!! MUWAhahah

Bioshock was an entirely different development team and dropped the political/social ideology that defined the first game in place of HEY GUYS LETS SHOOT PEOPLE UNDERWATTTERRR.
ebagg, a third bioshock game! so derivative! i wish irrational would make a third system shock game instead!
Anyway i'm all for ken levine taking on perversion of western imperialism with stemapunky carnival metaphors. Something is missing in you if you don't find the notion entertaining.
honestly as much as i love system shock 2, and think it was one of the best pc games in history, i don't want a sequel at all. Shodan's story is complete. She rose, fell, and rose again, there's not much mythical iconography left unless you want to have another story where she's redeemed, and i think that would be a farce.
If the bioshock series, aside from the silly, shallow bioshock 2, is going to be about criticisms of Utopian political schemes i support it entirely. Bioshock wasn't perfect, and the narrative was sometimes heavy-handed, but the content was something entirely unique to western gaming and i think a lot of people overlook how important that is.

I think everyone wanted was the gameplay depth of systemshock.
the bioshock series had the setting, art, mood of a shock game, but none of the gameplay, which was even cut down due to development schedules.
Now if we're lucky we might get some of that back for this game, but that's not going to happen.
Guys, best to my knowledge the System Shock trademark is actually owned by EA, which has been regularly updating it's copyrights ( with no official indication that they are making a successor)
So for all of us who are just dying for a system shock revival, it's very unlikely to happen from Ken Levin and the talented guys at Irrational.
early 1900's on the heels of WW1 ? Sounds very cool.. I will give the guys the benefit of the doubt!

This wasn't the root of the disappointment as I said above, people just want something less shooter 2.0 and more depth.
Interesting from an art direction point of view, but I've had enough of Bioshock, and I didnt even play the second one. Is the girl deliberately cartoony looking? The others went for a less stylished aesthetic. Or maybe the cinematic will look nothing like the actual game :P
Just looked at the screenshots on the website and was wondering, an I the only one who thinks the whole art direction looks a little too much like Airbørn?

We'll finally get the civilization shooter!!
LOL a true remake of SS1 is what I want..
"Bioshock creator Ken Levine, who was freed from working on the sequel (to bioshock) in order to produce an original title that could become another franchise."
lol, what does that even mean? Maybe we don't want to know?
Anyway,
what ever the game may be, it'll probably rock. SS3 would be awesome, but a new IP would be equally awesome.
I'm also a big fan of the Irrational games' pod casts.

Here's an idea, put it in space, make it sci fi horror, and calling it motherfucking System Shock 3, with Shodan. Do it and do it right!
the art style is kinda neat i suppose... except the goddamn overused heart behind glasss. let me guess, we gotta shoot it?

I'm sorry, but they're just milking the name, and nothing else.
