Hi guys, my name is Dmitry and I'm from Ukraine.
Despite I'm trying to get familiar with 3d Max for a long time, I'm not getting any progress with it.
Yesterday I saw your forum and it inspired me to try to improve their skills I'd like to ask your help with learning some basics of moddeling. I want to get involved to the gamedev in future, so I'll be asking much about low poly modelling. By the way, I'm using 3d max 2010.
So now I'm trying to make an AR 15 rifle. Does anybody know some tuts or something, cause I'm not shure whether I'm doing it wright.
I've decided to start from the butt.

Second, here are some good modeling tutorials on Racer445's website: http://racer445.com/
Third, did you try searching the 3ds Max help file for "Cap"? That's the quickest way to solve your hole. You will want to define some edges to get better topology though.
I've made the first element, chamfered it. But.. I can't apply a Smooth modificator to it when i'm pressing autosmooth nothing changes/ I wonder why is that so
Turbosmooth adds geometry, i think this is what you want(At least if you are doing high poly modelling).
