The Duke Nukem 3D High Resolution Pack is a project that aims to update the look of Duke Nukem 3D to modern day 3D models and animations. The High Resolution Pack’s development has been active since late 2004. Recently, the engine the project uses (EDuke32) has been upgraded to feature next-gen effects such as per-pixel dynamic lighting and real-time shadows.
We are currently seeking modelers, animators and texture artists to work on the high resolution pack. The current goal at the moment is to replace the older models, animations and textures that have been in the pack since the original releases. The eventual goal is to bring all the game assets up to modern standards with normal and spec maps. We are aiming to modernize Duke Nukem, while keeping as true as possible to the original look of the game.
If interested in helping with this project please PM either myself or Tea Monster for more information or post in this thread. For more information about the High Resolution Pack visit http://hrp.duke4.net/or visit the forums http://forums.duke4.net/
I believe the directive of stating "next-gen" (which actually refers to the LAST generation of game tech; doom3, GoW1, etc), while there may be increased textures sizes and improved lighting, the project still suffers the original brush geometry. So to the untrained eye there is no visual improvement. It's always an interesting sight to see these types of projects where people put a lot of work into maintaining silhouettes that were a reflection of limitations at the time. As opposed to actually updating the art. The forest for the trees I suppose.
Translation, parallax a flat surface all day it's still a flat surface.
Early on, it was decided by people at the HRP to keep the original game maps, so we are stuck with the original sector-based game geometry. It IS possible to replace stuff like sector based cars with model autos, but you'd need to edit the map to do it.
Also, we only recently got the ability to do next-gen models and dynamic lighting in EDuke32 (our source-port). I believe there are only a handfull in the pack at the minute. Most of the models you see there are the ones that were made for the engine years ago.
We're still looking for people to model weapons and enemies.
Please PM me if interested.
I've sent you a PM about my interest to help with that like creating model of monster of duke or somenthing else but I can say to be a little better with modeling guns...let me know if you are interest .
