Model transparency

Ok, so I'm having a problem with an emergency light model. I only want the light to be transparent but it's not going into source right as the whole model is transparent. I am using 3ds max is there a way to fix this? Mind you, I deleted the faces on the base as they won't be seen. I heard there is a way you can use 2 textures on a model can anyone explain how to do so?

    I'm not a source guy, but to use two textures you would use two materials *i assume* and as for this problem a work around or possibly even requirement *could* be that you need the parts to be separate meshes, and grouped in hammer.

    I have limited knowledge on well known engines and especially the bsp style stuff though, so I'm sorry if this can't be the case for you.
