As Halo Reach has been closing out I've been working on experimenting and working on some personal pieces the past month. I wanted to share some of these things here, starting with old to new:
The first one started a series of '3d concepts' - I wanted to see if I could generate an interesting idea quickly in 3d and paint over it to expand upon the piece. It took a couple hours to model, and a few hours to paint over in PS. I mainly render out a basic few values on the geometry and use colored lights for the first 3d pass and it goes under heavy construction in PS to finish it off.
The first 3 were about a nights worth of work, just jump into 3DS Max and see what I could come up with (5-8 hours)
This one was more focused and about a day and a half of work.
My lady liked the plane I blocked out for that one so I ended up making a prettier version of it:
Thought there was more, if I find other recent pieces I'll add them here..
Vassago - I may have something a little bigger than 1280 but I finished them off at this res.. I'll snoop around my other drive but I think these will probably be all I have of these.. Next ones I will make bigger!
Xpandemic - I did FP weapons/vehicles/and a few props for MP on Reach
The plane is really strong, definitely some of the best i've seen from you designwise. The only thing that could be improved, is the front of those black engine blocks, is just flat and undetailed. I'd put like a big air-intake there with round, body colored plates. Just seems to contradict the aerodynamics this way.
Thanks for the write up too, nice to see how you went about it. Didn't expect your initial 3d renders to be as far along, gave a good insight into the method you used.
Lastly, since I've had some downtime after packing and getting ready to head down to Blizzard I have created a new vehicle design inspired by Lamborghini for the body style, but created like my others completely freehand. Made on my laptop though, so I'll have to re-render better quality after I get set up in California.

I have to say, this stuff is amazing. Even the polygon breakdowns look appealing on their own. I actually prefer the backgrounds to the vehicles, they have great sense of depth, great lighting, very unique.
Seems like no one does unique backgrounds anymore. Very good work.
That's some nice work man. I'm not completely sure about the sci-fi environment stuff, looking a bit boxy and oldish to me, but I dunno. The rest is ace tho, especially the plane
X-Convict! HOLY CRAP MAN!! That is some awesome work you've got goin on! Thank you so much for showing the 3d meshes that you block out for your concepts, very cool stuff!
nice work as always! and congrats on Blizzard thats awesome! Any chance tho, on a mini tut or explanation on your render settings on your cars and other vehicles. Of course if you'd prefer to keep that to yourself I would understand.

Your concept-to-3D environments are also great. The transition from 2D-to-3D can be difficult, but you pulled it off well.
Clean sharp and detailed for a short amount of time!
Makes my creative juices just by watching these!!

are you going to make your concepts in to real environment?
Fuse, Envelope, Torrrtilla: Thanks guys!
I've done a writeup on the 3D Concepts and Adam has put up the article on Polycount.com!

Great work as usual!
keep it up
First I have some larger renders (wallpaper size, 1920 to 3000) uploaded @ 1920, click on the preview image below or go to the folder located here:

Another quick concept made a few months ago:
A futuristic dark city and refinery.
