ITT the guys who are done and the guys who aren't fight.
Honestly, I can see there being some benefit to an extension, there's some stuff that isn't quite finished and a few things that are going to be very rushed at the end, and the deadline has had some benefit already in that quality work has been done in a timely matter. There's decent motivation to extend it.
But it ain't gonna happen.
Valve has had that deadline up for this whole time. The likelihood of them changing it at the last moment and enduring the admittedly justified complaints of people who finished on time and submitted their work already who relied on getting their stuff done as the obvious edge in a competition against the people who didn't...yeah, sorry guys, finish quick or you're screwed.
I don't think we need an extension. Infact, I have really loved the deadlines. Seeing as i have school from 8 Till 4, I had to manage my time wisely.
When at school there was no way for me to work on the models, but i did have access to the internet. This meant i could spend all my free time at school (Lunch and some classes) researching ideas and designs of my weapons.
Then when i returned home i had all my ideas and planning layed out for me and i was ready to model. Of course there where some nights of me staying up till 3 in the morning finishing off a UV or texture, but that was all in the fun with trying to finish on time!
I feel really jealous of the people that get to stay at home all day and work on there entries! I wish I had all that time to do what I love! I know my pack would have been maybe 2 times better than it is now if I had had that time.
But I feel some people shouldn't have started as late as they did, as soon as they announced the comp i whisked away to this website and signed up immediately! Of course some people are going to ask for more time, some people started working on there packs a week before the contest ended!
Anyway I didn't fully take advantage of my free time since I'm not in school and don't have a job and I'm disappointed in it. It doesn't warrant an extension though. As I improve I'll be able to work faster and hopefully be able to stay focussed more while working and that should be the same for everyone who entered. I look back on this competition and see areas I improved in and areas I can improve on to meet deadlines on my next project and I suggest that more people do the same instead of asking for extensions.
Unfortunately, no deadline extensions will be issued for the contest. This is a hard deadline and it won't be changed.
5 weeks for 3 items minimum was the contests schedule.
If you submit something to the contest that you later catch a bug on (you messed up an alpha somewhere, or forgot to optimize an element, etc.) etc. you are welcome to update that model post deadline. You may not, however, do complete asset changes or anything that is a major change to your items aesthetic, theme or design.
Just a reminder, the contest deadline is 00:01 PST, Monday June 28th, 2010.
I honestly might shoot myself in the hand if there was an extension. As much as I'd like more time to work and polish, I have been killing myself this last week between this and work. I really want it to be over so I can relax. I spent my sick day (while legitimately sick) working on my items for 12 hours and I passed up going to an Iron Maiden concert (for free) last night....
Not meaning to complain or anything, it's my own fault I didn't chug coffee down earlier in the contest to get stuff done.
Sparkwire deserves his own update after all he's done for the contest. Hopefully Valve reads all the threads and sees that, and do something nice for him even though they probably won't do an extension.
NOTE: Updates and fixes to items may be re-submitted at any point after the contest. Be sure to specify that you are submitting a fix in the “Anything else we should know?” section of the Team Fortress 2 Contribute Submissions Page and the older item will be replaced.

Hehehe nice one mate
We're not in a GA contest here
Sadly I don't agree. At university you are given weeks, months to do a single piece of work and I used to see fellow students who begged for more time when in reality all they did was party etc. Point is it's not fair to those that finished on time and the people who didn't finish should have done their work first and helped others after.
To be honest, to me it was 1 week of modeling/texturing ...the rest of time compiling and trying to fix bug (which was optional anyway). So i guess even someone new to modeling and texture mapping could do the minimum requirement in time (3 items without in game integration skinning and animation).

Same, took me about 1-2 weeks to make all my 5 models and the rest of the time was ingame testing, adding custom sounds, custom particles, create killicons, create bucket/sprite for the slots, create a presentation page and pack everything up so it'll be easier for quick testing on valve's side and send it all within the 2MB limit.

Yes, it was posted on the second page of this thread by EVIL.
Regarding that note, I will re-iterate my post above.

Like I posted before, Valve would be crazy not to hold another one of these contests. I think having a monthly contribution competition or contest could be just the right thing to give Team Fortress 2 a upsurge of quality community items.

What about once a season. Ya know, four times a year. Could even make them theamed, like Make a winter theamed pack. I like this. Most work i've ever done for anything.
I would love it if they hold annual/seasonal contests. Guess well just have to wait and see. At least we'll always have the contribute page. Maybe we could hold contests on Polycount that aren't official and the admins could judge or something. I definitely think that Polycount could use more monthly competitions and such. They really bring the community together and attract more active members.
eeep, I used to think that was a good idea, now it's been 3months and I haven't finished 3 measly little hats. although a deadline does make a heap of difference.
This! You bastard! There's starvin' children in africa who still have yet to hear 'fear of the dark'!
Haha, I felt bad turning down the opportunity, but it would have taken up my whole Thursday night. It was because someone my friend was going with couldn't make it so he had an extra ticket. This comp meant more to me though, so I didn't go.
If it was monthly, we wouldn't have time to play TF2 and the game would get so many items that the class stuff would be really watered down and everyone would have Call of Duty style loadouts.
Im killing my self over this contest, cramped arms, missed meals, blowing off dinner at the mexican resurant with friends. I had a nightmare about being a .qc file and the compiler kept eating me and squishing me up and spiting me out all wierd. Then there were these viruses like spys so i hid behind the firewall which was this freaky firey wall with a pyro head. I was all DA FUG. Im going to die....>_<
Instead of another competition, is there a way we could work out a polycount collaboration? I suspect the actual logistics of such an endeavour would make it unworkable but it's an idea.
I don't know about a collaboration, once you've made a few of these it just gets easier, but a VS might be cool. Kinda lika a Sniper vs Spy / Demo vs Soldier between polycounters where they can share a thread and work out a cohesive theme-set?
Well, Real life & Co. had me tied up for at least two weeks, so i've had to rush my stuff in the past 12 hours.
However, the rules do say this:
NOTE: Updates and fixes to items may be re-submitted at any point after the contest. Be sure to specify that you are submitting a fix in the “Anything else we should know?” section of the Team Fortress 2 Contribute Submissions Page and the older item will be replaced.
Meaning, if i am to interpret this correctly, that i can re-upload my models/textures at any time after the contest (deadline? contest winners day?).

i do hope valve takes note of this

Monthly seems a little too frequent.
However! If you guys want future TF2 + Polycount contests the best thing would be to let Robin know.

My aviation pack, proggs gas man and the gardening pack, as far as I can recall.
