While more time would be nice, Valve has already released the date that the winners will be announced, and they'll need time to judge all of the entries, so I don't they can give us more time without changing the announcement date. I doubt it'll happen, but it can't hurt to ask, I guess.

you are forgetting valve time, and their habit of delays.
...that. is. messed. up.
we are not even getting paid, why do we have to be on time and not them?
That's easy to explain. This is a contest. There is a prize. Disqualification makes judging easier. I'm not saying it's right, or fair, but that's likely the way it's going to happen.
It makes sense to pair the Polycount update with the Engie update... After all, people have been complaining for a while that when Engie gets his update, no one's going to want to play anything other than Engie. If the Poly Packs are released as well, then people will play other classes as well. It also explains the cryptic 'It's Your Turn Now' message at the end of the Engie teaser.
I would love a bit more time because I haven't been able to work the past week due to being out of town but I doubt it'll happen. We've had plenty of time to work on this stuff and if we haven't finished it's most likely due to our own lack of focus or lack of spare time to work on our entries which isn't Valve's problem.

...And don't forget that Valve knows that even if we don't finish in time, we'll still send our work in via the Contribute! system (because, who would refuse to submit their work after spending all that time and energy on it?), so they'll get a hold of our work even if they don't give us more time.
As with any and all internet contests, there are people asking for an extension.
Deadlines are there for a reason. If you don't have deadlines, you don't get quality work and you don't get stuff done at anything but a pace you could measure in geological terms.
Hur, Id think Id turn in better things with more time, ive been wokring all through out my free time, giving up play time. I think I'll work on my texturea and models a bit more.
well to be honest more time would be a godsend seeing as how I haven't gotten any decent sleep in the past 5 days of working on this contest
this ^
edit, anyway, there is a little line in the rules
NOTE: Updates and fixes to items may be re-submitted at any point after the contest. Be sure to specify that you are submitting a fix in the Anything else we should know? section of the Team Fortress 2 Contribute Submissions Page and the older item will be replaced.
so if you have no time for minor stuff then you can do it via that I believe.

it says a lot of things about him, many of them unpleasant.
Yes, unpleasant things like...
...he's unemployed right now, so he has some extra time to work on projects.
...he has respect enough for deadlines that that he tries to meet them by working quickly.
...he wants to get quality work done instead of wasting time bitching on internet forums about people who are faster than he is.
...he has enough respect for other people that he doesn't make snide remarks about people he's never met.
Oh, wait, that last one has nothing to do with the contest. Oops.
And then, the Polypack contestants began their grisly feeding, their ghoulish howls of madness and hunger echoing long into the cold night sky. Little remained after the Night of Devouring, save for the bones. The bones, and one bloated form, twisted beyond humanity, but brimming with the soulfire culled from 100 lost souls, the hellish talent of a legion of modelers and the ability to unleash... the Dark Texturing.

I know we're all a little cranky, what with the deadline drawing near, but I really think the internet could use a sarcasm button, because any 'snide remarks' I'm certain were meant in jest only... For example, we don't actually intend to eat your heart. :-)

As much as I'd love a deadline too, as I'm working on my last two objects as fast and hard as I can, I'm fine with the deadline.
I can assure you all, this contest won't be the last. From the large turnout of high quality stuff, I wouldn't be surprised if Valve altered their contribution page to be based on monthly contests, maybe even with themes involved.

Sparkwire deserves his own custom taunt animation/s (or a medal or something) for his willingness help everyone and quality work on everything!

What where how? guess i skipped over that line.
Just because they delay their own work doesn't mean they'll let us delay ours... Hypocrisy is a perfectly valid policy for any business. :-)

My biggest worry right now is texture painting, but I'd love to have more time to import and test the items in-game.
not to be mean or anything...
(and by "they" I mostly mean Polycounters)
Jobs and social obligations, dude.
True, but I didn't say they were. I said that in response to Mico's comment about how he couldn't believe people were still working on it.
You know what amazes me? The fact that as late as a few days ago, people were still JOINING the contest.

How about learning to model, and texture Some of us are N00bs

easy for you to say, you're already done.
I thought that was 'badges'...
Oh wait, we LIKE badges! :-)
It says he's a heartless jerk and that we should all detest him. Also, we should kill him and eat his heart to gain access his awesome skills.

Meanwhile, I'm going to clear my head with some oxygen from the great outdoors.
HE'S GOING OUT IN THE OPEN! GRAB YOUR UTENSILS, BOYS! :-)
