Show us the version you submitted? Would like to see the texture
Oh its nothing you really haven't seen for lv 1.
lv 2 has textures, and 3 wasn't done all the way texture wise. So i don't exactly have anything new to show yet.
However, this week I will be ironing out the new unwraps, textures, and junk like that.
I plan to make some gibs as well.
Also sparkwire has decided to help with animating.
Keep one on the top and remove the sides.. sides are smaller in general so texture wont seem as boring as what it top look like if it was completely plain.
I asked Jacob, our resident TF2 artist, for some feedback on your work, and he sent me this. I hope its useful.
-- When were designing TF buildings/objects, it helps to look through designs (cars, gas pumps, aircraft, even household stuff) from the 30s, 40s, 50s. The basic question is would this have been able to be built out of something from those eras?, or would this fit in with objects from those eras?
That may help you sort out some of the feedback youve been getting. For your first design, with the wheels, it might be useful to look at towed heavy weapons from world war 2 or even world war 1 what do the wheels look like, how does everything connect together, what do the bolts and pieces look like, etc. And of course give it a bit of TF stylization. --
Robin.
From what I gather it indirectly says..
"keep the first design, like it having wheels, but redesign them. Here are some examples references you might be able to use."
So it looks like i can save time, money, and orphan souls. Mmmm nothing tastes quite as sweet as the innocent soul of an orphan. (j/k)
But i may still add the vent in a normal map to about the same area of the 4 stripe backing.
nearly half of the entries are of a high enough quality to be shipped in future updates without much work needed on Valve side. So, if you did not win this time around you can be confident that your items will one day find there way in to Team Fortress 2.
I'm still working with Jacob the TF2 artist to iron out the design to better fit the style and overall presentation. So I'm not ruling out a future inclusion.
Thanks to all those who supported me and my last minute futile attempts.
I will attempt to keep updating this thread with previews of my progress.

It doesn't really coincide with the theme, its just something I made when I didn't have access to my sentry files.
Unwrapping parts of 2 and 3.
And i finished the hat.
No sir i don't like it.
It looks like a slightly modifed default one.
It visually bores me so.
updates? only hours left
i called the sentry: Shell Shock Sally
i called the hat: Union-Man's Cap
god i love that note

Probably the top two.
Maybe add some textures and normal mappin for vents in between the stripes on the side.l
and a redesign because apparently the number of braces i had before were also widly unpopular...
Edit: oops sorry buck, didn't see your post before i tried this.
Only 1 stripe you say? How wide?
I emailed robin, and got this lovely response.

I'm glad the wheels are a hit! Towed heavy weapons/mortars huh?
This is easily doable and would definitely knock down the polycount.
I'd REALLY see this:
as the base of your sentry.
Wheels, yes, the flat metal piece no.
looks like valve had the same idea (look at the wheeled sentry picture)
:poly142::thumbup:
I will be adding the bolts.
I just need to find time...
College homework + dead end jorb + engie update and the search for the golden wrench = very little modeling time.
Still, brilliant work
It pretty much recycles the Default sentry's textures. So Its as much detail as they put in plus a little extra.
It will probably be a lot clearer in game, if i could ever figure out how to put it in.
You got build animations yet?
Sparkwire from Facepunch said he'd give it a go when i was done.
I kept the belts because it:
Kept a similar silhouette to the default sentry
Looked cool
It looked weird without them.
I didn't change it from the default because:
I am lazy, but i originally wanted to.
It would take a lot of work as they have quite complex curves.
the lv 1 nuzzle is about the same size as the default, I just extended mine back instead of miniguns from nowhere.
--
I can try to give them muscle, but with the update on the cusp of release any alterations i make now would have to be quick and dirty.

Something I have been working on, on the side.

That's the first thing I thought of, but then again, Megaman has a place in my gaming corner.
I'd hope you recognize it as... Guts man.
I was actually thinking of doing a whole body armor for it too, as long as someone else rigs it.

and now for something completely different...
FireMan Pyro - texture and fire is a placeholder.
also, this thread is amazing.
