I had saved this concept by Nelis that I found in the waywo thread a while back. It's a cool rendition of the Starcraft wraith. Anyway I hadn't done any large project like this before so this was a good start.
I've still got a bit to do before I can show renders of the rear and underside, but I've been getting anxious to show my work!
Concept by Nelis:
And the model!
Also here's an earlier shot of the bottom wing showing off the welds:

Of course, I jest.
Awesome work man, nailed the detailing, and I always think one can go 'over the top' with hard surface sometimes adding too much detail, I think you got the balance just right.
My only crit if I really had to would be that the central portion that runs from the cockpit to the tail (apologies for my lack of spaceship terminology knowledge) may be a TINY bit too narrow, it looks a little fatter in the concept but really the way you've done it doesn't look any worse necessarily.
Planning to go all the way with this one?
ps: wires?
The hull of your model looks a little elongated compared to your reference. That's an easy fix though.
Am blown away.
Great work. I give it a 11 out of 10 on the richter scale of awesomeness.
I'll expect this UV'd and baked by the morning.
Only things that are off are the wing length/angle, along with the cockpit being further forwards than it is in the concept.
Still looks great mind. :P
Altough I also have to say the far end wings in the concept being thinner/smaller (than closer to body) and positioning gives the concept the edge on dynamic feel.
Im also gonna weld on my next model :P
The proportions look a little off to me though. As others have stated, the cockpit region seems too long. I kinda like the sleek look that this adds though. I think the bottom wing-ish thing (the 'stinger') is what is throwing me off. It's a little short judging from your shots and could be more slanted forward perhaps.
These are pretty minor gripes overall, but they'd add a little more resemblance to the StarCraft Wraith I know. Looking great so far!
I think this is a good length for the stinger. Can't wait for updates!
i'd lose the weldings and detail the engine more
nice work
the only crit is that it could match a tad more the proportions from the concept ( less alongated , the bottom gun to be even bigger , the cockpit be in a \__/ shape instad of |___| , the lights infront of the cockpit to be pulled a tad more backwards ) appart from that looks pretty dope man !
I dig the render setup as well !
From what I can see you're on the right track, but there are a few areas that really popped out at me when I compared the concept to your model. It could be the difference in perspective and angle or I might just be reading the details wrong, but here's a quick PO to show you what I saw.
1. I might be nitpicking, but the concept's fins(?) reach farther around the lower tail than yours do.
2. The body of the Wraith in the concept appears to be more compact and convex than in your model, where you've modeled it flat. Again, it could be the angle, but I think the cockpit (#6) sort of shows this difference.
3. In the concept, the lower tail is very exaggerated and shaped more like a boomerang. It also appears slightly longer due to it hanging lower at the base of the ship. In your model, there seems to be very little bend and appears to go straight down as opposed to down and forward.
4. The lower cannon appears a bit less beefy than in the concept. Looks about the right length, but it doesn't appear to carry the increased circumference as it gets closer to the base, making it seem smaller (or less beefy). Could be the angle.
5. Sort of the same deal with the base(#2) of the ship where there appears to be a slight curve in the concept but is modeled flat/straight in your interpretation. I exaggerated the bend so you could see what I'm getting from the concept.
6. The cockpit windows on your model are at right angles, the concept has them at 120+ degree angles. This is also the reason the core of your Wraith(what I saw in #2) looks a bit blocky and flat.
The difference right now is that the concept Wraith has smooth if subtle curves that make it look like a quick and slightly aerodynamic craft, while your Wraith looks more blocky because those same subtle curves don't appear to be there. It still looks damn good, though
I really hope that helped, I can't wait to see further updates on this.
Great model
now run another "layer" of smaller details
take it beyond the concept
Really good work Racer445!
i can't wait to see this textured !
You're missing the vital RTS top down view render :P
We want that render ^^
On an unrelated topic, I must get down to R&D to see how that "Talent transfer Lazer" is getting on >.>
Nice modeling as always dude, looking forward for the LP and the Bake!
cheers!
i'm calling the high poly done. the rockets on the wings from the concept were modeled but i ditched them as they cluttered it up. i also tried to avoid making too many details and left a good amount of rest areas.
Would really like to know how you modelled some of them shapes,
are you going to be taking this any further?
Only little thing i don't like are the welding seams at those 2 Zylinder things, i get the feeling they are out of proportion making the ship smaller than it should be.
