all there's need to do is tone down the texture color and tune the material settings to make it less bright.
I also changed the design a bit due to the complexity of editing the cloak hud on the watch (managed only to scale it down and displace it.)
The satelhat v.2 Level 23 portable baccarat detector
I made a similar hat once but looking back at it now, it wasnt that good and had some things such as the mesh topology, UV and texture that werent very good.
So I redid the whole thing from scratch and keeped the original style it had while doing so.
It has jigglebones for the wires and for the antenna
Also here's a screenshot of the fixed texture on the new watch:
Here's an alternative that I made for the sap-shooter
Still not found a name tough, it basically use air compression to shoots (poisoneous) needles. Made it so that it will fit the spy's current revolver's animations better.
The poison dart shooter could use a different handle, imo.
Does that cassette say Woman Moaning? haha
Yeah I think I,ll change the handle on the dart shooter.
Also, glad someone actually noticed
Here's a screeny from the modelviewer, to my surprise, almost no clipping.
it uses the medal bone, the spine01 bone and the left hips bone.
I tried to send my stuff trough the contribute site. It failed. Why?
BECAUSE THE FILESIZE LIMIT IS 2 MB WHAT THE.
Here's my file sizes:
Blank shot model zip file: 707 Kb
Blank shot material zip file: 9,32 Mb
Dart Blower model zip file: 662 Kb
Dart Blower material zip file: 11,3 Mb
Electro-Taser model zip file: 852 Kb Electro-Taser material zip file: 5,18 Mb Satelhat model zip file: 135 Kb
Satelhat model zip file: 2,62 Mb
Wiretape model zip file: 35,7 Kb
Wiretape model zip file: 6,18 Mb
the model and other compiled files can pass, but how do they expect us to send the PSD files without breaking the limit?
Thats already what I use genius :poly142:
ho and if you mean compress them in .7z files, the submission guidelines say to compress them in .zip (not sure about other compression format, thats why)
I have got an idea for the electro-taser, on backtase it releases a high charge of electricity shocking everything in its vicinity (on enemy team of course) and the closer an enemy is to the victim the higher the damage. The downside to this could be a loud shocking noise much like the downside to the Dead Ringer which gives off a loud noise. Now I know you do not need stats but it would be a good idea that if you like these and think they would accompany your electro-taser then you better get to work on a big electric shock on back-tase.
My suggestion is to merge every layer that you can afford to merge. and send it in the 512/512 size, even if you were working in a higher resolution :S
You aren't required to send the PSD's. You're required to send one of the following: PDS/.TGA. It's right in the rules
Required:
Model source formats: .QL, .OBJ, or .MT
Materials source formats: .TGA/.PSD
You don't have to send all of those. Just one of them. If you're doing TGA and OBJ, which is the most common method of submitting I'd think, you should have no problem not going over the 2 MB limit.
At first I emailed robin about this. Then seeing he wasnt replying, I decided to try to fit this thing into 2MB. What I found is that the 2MB limit applies to each folders/zip submitted
thus 2MB for the material folder, 2MB for the model folder.
So I reduced my PSDs to the required sizes, 512x512 for the weapons and 256x256 for the hat/misc. I also fused several layers while letting the base colors intact for easier means for modifications.
I also moved the new killicons I made to the satelhat folder, considering it was the smallest one (it was blowing the max 2MB limit for my electro-taser material folder).
So in the end I was able to submit the .obj file, the compiling files: qc, smd of the w_models and v_models, the compiled files placed in a "tf" folder for easy testing as a skin for the default weapons, the source material: the PSDs, the compiled materials for the v_model, w_model, bucket texture, backpack textures, killicons textures: the vmts and vtfs and the custom sounds files.

Mico, perhaps you could ask for help on Facepunch?
I think one or two of the guys there have Robin in their friends list and is in relatively good contact with him. I'm sure he wouldn't mind helping out a fellow modeler by asking Robin personally about this.

Yeah I was already on Facepunch's tf2 section before the contest (21 feb 2010)
And yeah I know some poeple there have robin on their friend list, but I was really hoping robin would at least send a reply to my email.
But I don't really mind now since I've sorted the problem and managed to fit everything into the 2mb limit. I resent the packages and specified it in the "anything we should know" section like it was said in the contest rules.
As for gameplay, those item still use teh same exact gameplay as the older weapons, so I dont know why you say they have a specific gameplay?
It's all just ahestetic change that I've made, none about gameplay, just like the rules said.
dude, best spy polycount submission by far. after reviewing each one carefully, yours, Ritz, Fragus, Evils, and Frump, yours is by far best one. very creative and thought out compare to the rest. really hope you win. valve needs to take a look at this. very good submission that seems to be underlooked. nice job Mirco27, this owns. looking forward to seeing this in game and hoping valve implements this in a future update. hope you win!

One thing though, you might want to refrain from those 2-handed animations, unless you want the Spy's third arm appearing a lot.

exactly what did you do to replace the model of the knife? as I am working on a spy pack also, and I notice that it isn't easy to replace the knife.

Also Yes, I'm working on a misc item:

All that is left to do is pack my files in orders and it's ready to be sent.
im doing them.

Are you sending all the items separately like the instructions say?
yes, each items have two seperate zip, one including the model files and the other including the material files.
The only thing weighting a lot are the PSDs wich are REQUIRED to be sent.
Thats already what I use genius :poly142:
ho and if you mean compress them in .7z files, the submission guidelines say to compress them in .zip (not sure about other compression format, thats why)
that's how your supposed to do it?
That makes 10 zip files since I have 5 items.

However, I fear the items are made with slightly too specific gameplay ideas in mind, ideas that Valve might not like. But I dunno.
Are they choosing one pack per class? They really should, 'cause I'm seeing so many excellent entries that I feel should win!

I just don't want such a fantastic pack being ruined by a cameo appearance of the Spy's third arm.
