Ach! Zis is ridiculous! Tin foil iz not a proper deterrent ov brain wave stealing BLUs! Come here and I vill give you some medicine for your paranoid delusions.
Please do a shotgun - you might model it after nuclear power plants and call it Dr. StrangeGun. We need at least one Dr. Strangelove reference in this Atomic Age pack! Or the Hulk...
It could have a spent nuclear fuel rod bolted to the side of a contraption with miniature nuclear cooling towers and pipes coming out, the main mechanism shape could be based on a nuclear steam generator.
Hey guy, nice looking hat you've got there. Should help with that new neighbor of yours, the one who you said is trying to reprogram you by playing all those weird noises throughout the night(you freaking loon, it's called rock & roll).
That jiminy thingie and man hitter seem to be alright as well but um, tell me, what are you going to do for mid-range fighting? You've seen all the new weapons those eggheads are designing. If I can get my hands on just a couple of those, I'll be able to dance within the minimum firing range of that worthless potato gun and stay out of reach of that gimmicky "bowling-ball-on-a-stick" and then it'll be your head on a stick.
Now I've been pawing through the engi's magazines (can you believe not one dirty picture?) and you could not imagine what they're doing with nukes these days. They've got ones that can kill everyone in a city while leaving the buildings intact and ones that shut down anything with a electronic part(hmm, you might like that last one, you paranoid luddite)
Now here's the kicker. They were talking about space weapons(!) and one idea is to put a small nuke in a barrel and pack hundreds of metal pellets on top. Now, I don't know what that sounds like to you but to me, that sounds like a nuclear shotgun. You might wanna check out what your eggheads have going on.
cool and well thought up ideas soldier especially the man-hittin project ( i lolled ) ive never done any modelling so i cant be of any assistance in modelling but maybe in design
there is a lot of referance pictures above, If he can make a mace out of a nuclear fission device he can make a shotgun out of nuclear generaters, pipes, cooling tubes and fuel rods...to name a few.
the atomic age theme is fertile soil full of radioactive remniants.
Things involving fat man, trinity, los alamos, honest john, minuteman, oppenheimer etc. would be good names, basically though you just gotta find something to meet the concept and then get some cool shit to go with it.
Though I don't need to tell you you've done marvelously at this so far.
the point is this theme is too good just to have the minimum three items, and with zweb... soldier and his crack R&D team behind it the prospect of a fourth item is so great I can't even think of a proper adjective.
they have the time, they have the equipment, they can build it. bigger, better, stronger, faster, more radioactive then before... the weapons would inspire future soldiers for generations to come.
There's obviously no shortage of inspirational material to draw from for the physical design, and even less of a shortage to draw clever names from:
Little Boy
Thin Man
Project: UPSHOT
Castle Bravo/Koon/Union/Yankee/etc.
"Alarm Clock"
Ivy Mike
Operation: Buster-Jangle
Starfish Prime
Operation: Fishbowl
Matador
"Honest John"
"Minuteman"
Do you maggots honestly think you thought of something that I didn't? You need to have your maggotty brains checked! Do you think Julius Caesar had anyone invent the cannon for him too?
Here's an atomic shotgun! Loaded with radioactive shells, even its bullets fire little atomic bullets. When they get shot up from the inside as well, the BLU team scum might finally learn not to enter my battlefield .
Here is a "silhouette", which is Frenchie talk for "I can't draw within the lines, so I'm not even gonna goddamn bother":
Oceans of the world best be steppin' off, cuz you're the Moses of Video Game Modelling.
As for 'glowing', doing a selfillum map is easy, at least in regards of actually doing the material file >>; As for what should glow, that dial/meter/Geiger-counter thing attached to the breach looks like an ideal candidate.
It's a fabulous start, but it doesn't look that much different from the standard shotgun yet. It needs something... more. Exactly what, I'm not sure. A certain... je ne c'est quoi...
which is French for "I don't what the hell I'm talking about but I still want to sound pretty damn clever."
Do you mean coming from inside the gun hole, because that would in fact be pretty awesome :O
Also, I don't think you should listen to all the people who say it doesn't look different enough Zwebbie.
I think the ribbed model and the extra wire is just enough to make it look unique without looking retarded
I love its current look.
Keep in mind that if it is used as a shotgun remplacement, it wont be able to shoot projectiles since the shotgun is a hitscan weapon. The best you can do would be to edit the muzzle effect of the shotgun in the particle files.
This is no more than a small idea, but how about in exchange for the powerful atomic damage it causes, the nuclear radiation received from carrying it causes you to lose something like 15 health every minute or so. But of course you can still heal yourself with healthkits.

It is of little matter as Valve is the one that will decide what it will do either way.

They could change that simply if they wanted to. The reason for modeling existing weapons was so they didn't have to create/rig new animations for new weapons. That's entirely up to the developers, though.

If you ladies can't tell the difference by one being a standard issue weapon that even Engineers use and the other being an atomic incarnation of my wrath, maybe it helps that the colours are reversed:

But yes, excellent and appropriate headgear.
It's an improper fraction it's so good!
One thing I would like to see though... is a shotgun replacement, just to see what madness you'd come up with...
Depleted... no, wait... ENRICHED uranium slugs.

Pretty please with sugar on top?

agreed...but he has a point...I wish to shoot him with somekind of atomic shotgun.
"Ooh, now look at that shiny noggin! Lovely target practice."
It seems kinda hard to come up with a shotgun idea that is at the same time related to atomic weaponry though :S

Duct n' Cover sounds a lot catchier.

Shaping up very nicely

Must be working with the boys in the lab on their latest Nucleer development.
If Valve does plan to give the winning model-set their own weapon mechanics, I will be very interested to see what they do with these.
Zwebbie and Progg are my two favorites to win this.
Listen up, you tired housewives!

Yes!
It's...
BEAUTIFUL. :O
And, if you can manage it, it should click. I bet you could get Valve to do that.
The stock looks kind of wonky though, shape wise.
