and when i said animal bone and antler, i didn't mean in the shape of of a knife handle. i meant, just using a bone the sniper picked up off the ground as a blunt weapon.
i would rather stay away from bladed weapons as well, unless someone comes up with a really original idea. i think they are being way to overused in this contest.
I think a bone would bring to mind "cave man", which I don't think is what you are going for.
There are plenty of bladed weapons that are fairly unique. I'd suggest the Hunga Munga. Its African origin fits thematically, and the curves match the aesthetics of both the kukri and your bow.
African throwing knives, like the Hunga Munda, come in great variety, so if the specific geometry of that one isn't your style there are plenty of options a quick Google Image Search away.
Ostensibly they are made for throwing, but also work for melee. I think you would hold it whichever way suits your immediate purpose (stabby or slashy). Convenient since the Sniper holds the kukri upside down in the loadout.
If you want something simpler, Zulu axes also have a very distinct look and would probably work with the existing animation.
That weapon up there look crazy overcomplicated, and Zulu axes would seem to fit into more of a tribal theme than a Big Game Hunter theme. A skinning knife fits into the hunter theme but those are usually smaller knives and wouldn't work so well with the kukri animations.
Well thats why I suggested an actual rhino horn with lion teeth embedded. If you do Big Game might as well have an item made of trophies from the Big Game. he could hold the horn by the slim end and have teeth in the bulky end. Bludgeoning/slashing damage.
Maybe you could have teeth embedded in the bone idea.

well it is certainly starting to sound a lot better after two days of no better ideas.
does anyone have any ideas for a razorback replacement? the only idea i have is perhaps a second quiver, maybe a hip quiver. the big problem would be this item, whatever the stats, would be worthless when the rifle was equipped. so i might have to make an ammo pouch as well. meh, not very good idea.
I kinda like it, the blade looks a bit stubby though, are you going for a slicing with the blade or something with the teeth? Either way it definitely needs to be bigger.
The jawbone handle matches the theme well and could be interesting. My only concern is that it may look gruesome, in a way different than the blithely comedic violence already present in TF2. My concern may be totally unfounded if you succeed making it look appropriately cartoony.
Are you planning on making the blade knapped stone like the reference? That creates some practical limits on blade shape. The blade body would have to be somewhat thick in order to look believable.
Give him an australian boomerang! i mean hes australian and a boomerang im sure can hurt in melee combat! :P
this has been done several times... and how would that fit with big game hunter?
or is the sniper Mann enough to take down an elk with a piece of bent wood
and moribund, i understand your concern. i have have the same feeling, but i think i can make it look fitting. and i will probably go with a metal blade.
the jaw bone was based off a deer jaw bone, and teeth are from a much larger carnivore. i did this to make it look not all that believable, with way exaggerated proportions.
im not going to bother doing a comparison, i can tell you right now it wont fit in the snipers hand. i think i will have to put some cloth wraps or something on to make it fit.
ok, i got it ingame, and fixed the handle so it would fit in his hand. but to be honest i really don't like how the blade looks, it seems way unbalanced, and sticking to far into the middle of the screen.
no, no. i don't play all that much anymore. that will change once the engy update is out though. then i will play alot for the first few months, then it will kinda wind down until the next big update is released.
i cleaned up the larger jawbone version quite a bit, and reduced it by almost 1000 trisies. it is currently at 2076, still more than i would like. But i don't think i can get it any lower without hurting the look. and i still have to do the end, will probably just make look broken off.

either melee weapon, jarate replacement, or razorback replacement.

exactly like this.

you really didn't like the Rhino horn knife? I thought that was a great find.
but that's just me...

my problem with the rhino knife is that no one will recognize it as a knife made from a rhino horn unless they are directly told what it is.
I would think big game hunters would use something like that while traversing those mountain paths.
no, that would require new animations. and i don't have time for that.
that's why i'm trying to stay away from knives in general. that are way overused, the sniper already has two, and most people are giving him a third.

Maybe a wolf or coyote or dingo pelt?
You didn't even read the thread?
Come on man.
ninja'd, and agreed. if you don't have anything constructive to input don't bother posting in my thread, especially this late in the competition.
EDIT: the sniper needs a new bow. one that is longer, with perhaps a new type of arrow
*nudge nudge, wink wink.*
a club would not require new animation, but a whole two handed walking stick would.
something perhaps like this? my only problem with this is it doesn't really fit the theme.
state your opinion now, or it will be to late.
