The "Courier" project is an example of this type of effort and its technologies will be evaluated for use in future Microsoft offerings, but we have no plans to build such a device at this time.
Based on various rumors and confirmed specs by ASUS, we have compiled this specification list for the Eee Pad, which for the most part should be right on (remember we were almost spot on with the specifications for the T101):
Operating System: Google Android OS with ASUS-branded interface
Software: Support for Adobe Flash
Display: 7-inch capacitive multi-touch touchscreen
Graphics: NVidia Tegra graphics accelerator (with 1080p HD video playing)
Battery: Li-polymer, 8 hours runtime
Processor: ARM CPU
Storage: 64 Gb on integrated flash
Audio: Digital Array Mic
Camera: Integrated 0.3 megapixel webcam
GPS: Integrated A-GPS unit
WiFi: Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n)
3G: Integrated 3G connectivity with UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)
Interface: 2x USB ports
Price: Around $499
Release date: July (Q3) 2010
Oh and whats this? A PEN!
Or if you want "mo powa" they have a Windows 7 version in the works as well.
My guess is the courier was too expensive to produce and microsoft didn't think they would be able to turn a profit on it with the other competition sapping part of the market.
Oh man that Asus Pad is everything the Ipad isn't! Meaning it looks great and functional and useful! And the brand doesn't make up 70% of the price!
Do want!
As for a Zune, everyone I know who has one says it's better than the Ipod they used to have.
im getting this, a real processor, 8 gigs of ram, pressure sensitivity, multitouch, a pen, and a nice graphics card. i could actually make art on this without bringing it to its knees.

Faaaaaaaaaack. I wanted this so badly. I was even talking about this product just the other day with my girlfriend (who also really wanted it). Damn you microsoft, damn you.
The cool thing about the courier in my mind was the size and features. It looked like the perfect "business man on the go" device. I don´t want to haul a huge ass windows-tablet around.

Nooo Indeed. And I had oh so many plans for how to use a courier.
I know me too! One of them would be used to roleplay it as a pokedex.
Lets hope that in 2011 they decide its worth releasing. The tiny profile and book style with painting applications is just perfect for on the go sketching and reading.
problem with the axiotron is that you have to supply the macbook for them to convert so add the price of a macbook to the price of the axiotron and suddenly it seems like a rather bad idea.

Well for sketching, painting or sculpting properly on a tablet pc you want it to have at least laptop specs or it won't be good for much of anything. The conversion cost is just the price of getting a decent tablet screen, since nobody else out there seems capable or willing to do it.
Mine works great, and I still haven't found anything on the market that is as comparable for what it can do. I actually prefer using it over my cintiq at work. I got one of the studio pens with it which are pretty much exactly the same as an intuos/cintiq pen and it makes a huge difference when painting or sculpting.
Apps I use on it the most: photoshop, sketchbook pro, zbrush, 3dcoat. I wouldn't be able to use any of those on an ipad or netbook/slate job that are currently taking over the market.
That's awesome, I use a lot of music software that can interact with each other and it's a pain in the but to keep switching back and forth between them to tweak settings.
Yeah have to second that idea. I mean the ultrabooks aren't all that thick. Why can't they take the power of an Ultrabook and than place it in a tablet formfactor with pressure sensitive stylus. Gah....
I don't have an issue in plugging my tablet in an outlet to do heavier works, but I sure would like at least 4GB of RAM and a DX11 card, so I can do ma' shaders in a nice 'quick' environment.
I'd spend $1,000+ on a tablet if it performed as well as a decent laptop.
Isn't that what slates are for?
( just wish Asus or Samsung would make a 15" - 23 " win 8 slate whose bezels were lined with a long row of macro keys )

Oh well, at least I can still buy the Zune.
Yea, here i come I can't wait to make stuff on it! Except... it's only made for media consumption. Which I have other better devices for.
Don't mean to derail, but has anyone tried a Zune pass? Good, bad?
No. I think not.
This.

and I hope it's Wacom supported! which that pen.. doesn't look like.
The design around the actual rim makes it look like it's the top half of a laptop ripped off. erm..
It did look pretty sweet though.

Oh well, at least that Asus looks pretty nice.

That's cool, but I just want something super thin and small. Only for 2d art. That's it. I am too niche a market to ever get what I want

Post something up about it once you've tested it out, I'd love to get a tablet PC if it's any good

booo. looks like all our eggs are now in the asus basket to fuck up that ipad shit.

A little expensive if all you want is a sketchpad but it is after all a macbook at its heart (so it functions as a normal laptop as well.)
Its also the same size as a macbook so it does not fill that niche that some of us want unfortunently.
Heres the screen and pen stats:
Digitizer Board Wacom® Penabled® digitizer:
- Pressure sensing: 512 levels

I think I like the idea of Win7 more, only because of the apps that you could already have available, but this could still be cool.
