Hahah nice one. Previously I've been one of the very few to tag myself so I've always been a little timid coming back to it, but I want to voice my full support to you and anyone else who just want to crank the handle on any given tag--also, the more strains/variants of a given tag the better, too.
I'm fascinated about how hung up you are on the angular hood concept--in a good way, I mean. I think it's a mistake not to go after and explore something we keep wanting to return to, some of my favorite work happens when I scratch that itch. In the middle of some moving prep but I should be able to get another tag in soon, stay tuned (but keep tagging in the mean time, great work everyone)
Makkon, seriously, you have to stop making her look so awesome... I can't stop looking!!! Even the colour choice is so lush, I'm completely drawn in...
Gauss: There's not shame in it, like you said. I might even give it another pass, even if no one touches it for a while. I don't know what it is about that hood, now I seem to be on a hood kick (probably from playing too much AC2). When I get hang ups it's usually a good thing and I'm always satisfied with how things seem to turn out, like those cat-person critters you've seen a lot from me. The trouble is I tend to burn myself out of that idea in the process, and that's the shameful part.
Looks like we're gearing up this page with some tickets for another run, ROCK ON, GUYS
Nice stuff again. Do you guys mind explaining how you are getting that nice gradient effect all throughout your pieces? Is it a characteristic of Sai or burn/dodge type settings on your brushes or just a particular painting style? Do spill the beans please...The way I currently consider doing it is not very efficient at all, but I am seeing some quite quick/free strokes in there...
Allan-p: Nice, man! Great colors and full of motion!
kinetichaze: It's the the magic of the water tool, I've only seen SAI have anything like it. When used appropriately (such as being conscious of preserving hard edges where they should be) it can really smooth things out and make them look very well rendered with little effort at all. Also the brush too has a very nice blend behavior. I'll plug the link for you just in case you don't already have it: http://sai.detstwo.com/sai/
fork a duck Makkon, you just beat me to it kinetichaze, you can accomplish a similar effect in photoshop with a round brush that doesn't taper and with the hardness set to 0%, though it's not quite as slick as what you can get with SAI or Painter.
Also Makkon, you and Allan-P here need to slow down and drop the quality on your pieces-- you're killin me with all these great paints
anyway, the ticket you posted Slaught reminded me of the Karen S'jet character from the impeccable Homeworld games, so my piece turned into a rough take on her.
I'm going to have to disappear again but for a couple of weeks this time-- between helping my brother move and visiting my family I'll be busy, though hopefully traveling will give me some time to hammer out some pencil studies. I certainly need to..
Thanks for the info there, Makkon and Wake. I did faff briefly with SAI and then gave it up, when after violently painting the background, my document disappeared and I couldn't get it back; all the while teasing me with a little thumbnail in the top left. :P I've just been playing with the CS5 trial and it's an impressive step up from CS3 I must say, so I'll put my effort into that for now.
Anyway, here is another ticket while I work on my next tag...
@wake: Haha, you got someone waiting for you? Give us the good news when you get back! @Allan: Thanks! And I need to get on skype at a decent hour so we can chat! :P
This is the most sophisticated painting I have ever attempted, so this is a personal achievement for me. I had a massive amount of fun with this. (Thanks Allan-P for the catalyst!)
There aren't any lovelies waiting for me Makkon *sigh* thanks for rubbing it in
What I meant was that when I get back I'll do a tag of that fine, well armed female you painted even though it doesn't need it
(by the time I finally do get back I'll have a lot of catching up to do on this thread)
Also I want a piece of that robot/skull/whatthehellisgoingon-guy, it looks delightful.
@Betty Hime, Mezz & kinetichaze-- I can't help but think of Darren Aronofsky's 'Pi' when I see these.. I may have to do a tag based on that when I get back unless someone else beats me to it. Which I would love to see if anyone is familiar with the movie
@kinetichaze-- good work man, glad to see that you're really stretchin out there on the work, not to mention being prolific these last couple of days.
Thanks man, some of this recent productivity is driven by anxiety of my holidays coming to an end (back to uni this week and another work contract not far off).
It's funny you mention that movie, I actually had it in the back of my mind when doing that tag and it might explain my choice of monochrome too.
I hope to see more from everyone in here once ya'll get a chance. This thread is orange sunglasses cool.
krisCrash - Wow. Um. I love drawing androgenous charaters, but they normally don't have any feature.. that... you know, gives it away...
That being said, I am insanely intruiged by this painting, and will probably have to tag it. Welcome to the thread!!
@krisCrash-- your work can never be too nude. If anything, it's not nude enough @Zwebbie-- that's probably for the best, a few too many of those have been floating around lately... @ScoobyDoofus-- I want a piece of that.. dammit I can't get home fast enough. Never again will I leave my workstation! @Mezz-- gives it away? Isn't that what girls look like too? !
@wake: hey! Got it, I'll post some even nuder ones later ;)
@Mezz: thanks! Well to me they can be androgynous but still be.. sexual? Yeah. I made more versions of it, 'cause what bits it actually has doesn't matter so much, I just thought it ought to have some.

I want a date. :poly142:
My art is not so great lately.
Makkon > Dfacto > Suprore
So I took an alternate direction, sort of again returning a bit back to the original concept.

Nice paintings you've been whipping out, great to see!!
Hrmmmm, I'm feeling we could use some new tickets 'round here, not sure what to tag next...

My ticket while I think about what to do
Forgive me if it's too nude, never could find the official "too nude!" law around this board :poly124:
Sorry for leaving out the tentacle rape, Ferg.
I'll do a tag a little later I think. So many good possibilities.
