Hey there! I've been totally lazy with all the work I do lately - no time for personal stuff=(
But now I feel like the hunger for studying overcomes(thanks to FFXIII^_^) so I diceded to strat a scetchbook here, to keep me motivated and responsible for updating it every once in a while.
I haven't done any drawing in quite a while. And it actually feels good, to look at something and realise how totally shitty it is=) makes me want to work hard(or eat my pencils%) ).
I mostly do my drawings based on something. Or even juts redraw stuff when I like it a lot. And thats the point that bothers me. If there's a goal to be pointed out for this thread(at least for now) it's that I want to come up with more stuff that is unique to me and looks descent without hours of looking for and at reference. Any comments and critiques are totally appreciated. And If I ever become good at drawing I'll totally have to buy the most active of you a piece of chocolate or something=)
I post some oldies here first. I'll scan the new stuff tonight.)
those guys Are a part of my personla project. They are bound by somethng they do. I came up with personal stories for them and given them a good thought.
If I'll ever get ot finish it you'l definetly know more.) Btw, the guy in the middle was drawn on a lazy saturday morning in Jerusalem=)
cheers. see you soon

sometimes my references are too obvious) but hey, I love FF
-_^
I didn't get to draw much ant there's no excuse for me. Someday I'll just have to be crucified.
But hell, I have to eat so work has to be done too. In a month or two there's a pimnin' thread to be created with stuff I'm working on and I can't really wait.)
so here's the first pack of doodles:
this character is based of my most special female friend. It really makes me feel great that she liked it=)
the background was drawn separatly on a recent drawing crusade in the great outdoors. It's always to fun to draw from live models 'cause I have to try to stay hidden not to make people feel uncomfortable and still find an interesting point of view and draw it real fast till they change their posture or are gone. In the middle of drawing the lovely pair they walked out on me so I had to finish them from my memory.)
cheers! I hope you're all having a good time ;-)
My painting still sucks though, but I'm working on it=) PS only. Ref used.
btw I've got another pack of drawings waiting to be scanned. I'll do this once the work get's less hectic...pfeeew
cheers, see you around!
I know that practice is the key, but if you've got any other advice - I'd be more then delighted to hear it.
this came out, while studying a kid in the playground...
Zoot Suit
Thanks for your time, boys and girls, and have a nice day) We have an amazing summer rain here=)
Cheers!=)
My scaner is kinda bitchy so the brightness he gives out is inconsistent, plus the drawing are of different sizes, so the real paper texture could give away the scaling(if I wanted to scale.)
So I just made myself some photoshop paper. It's just render->clouds->add noise then a "color" layer on top of it and then some render clouds set to small transparency to break the uniformity. The sketche go on top with set to multiply blending mode.
It kinda helpes to settle down with the presentation, 'cause now, every time, I don't have to spend time doing it and thinking aboot it.
Anyway, thanks for your comment, dude! And I hope that the sketches themselves contribute to the overall coolness, at least a bit=)
hey. I've just got myself some brutal legend and it's awesome.
After playing a bit I thought it would be nice to do a female character for my portfolio once in while since, i've been doing ugly photorealistic dudes, that are under life long NDA lately.)
so we'll see how this turn's out. If'l get down to really doing this sweet lady then I mihgt even make wip thread about it. I've got to make it someday about something) so it just might be her.) we'll see=)
cheers and have a nice day!
Since I've been working my ass of since new year the last couple weeks seemed kinda a lot less productive.) But it's a good thing. To get me going I did a study from one of my favourite movies. The one to guess the movie get s a pony=)
I felt pretty annoyed while doing this 'cause man I know I suck. I can't paint clearly realising what I do and envisioning all the steps I'm going to take. It's inefficient right now since I have to paint it, look at it, find out what's wrong, fix, rinse, repeat. And I don't even always know what is wrong. It's like walking in the dark.
I guess I'll just have to paint a few more of these.=) Anyway all advices and crits are greatly appreciated, even thoguh it is a ~4h doodle.
Cheers!
Never done no concepting in my life. But kinda realized the need for it. So here goes.
I could produce a pic of such quality in about 6 hours and getting faster. How do you think guys. could this be considered as an actual concept in a work environment? and how fast do you really have to produce them?
C&C greatly welcome! I gotta improve in that thing. And there's a lot of room for improvement.
In regards to painting, if you want to learn the fastest way to paint I'd recommend checking out gnomon's DVDs.

Keep it up dude! It's looking good.
Yeah those beams felt kinda weird but I think they might be more of a support thing.
Here's the ref I found it on:

Anyways glad you like it and thank for your feedback and the link.
Btw your paintings are really nice too!
Cheers
Some more concept art practice. I tried to bring up the visual quality a bit as well as come up with an interesting environment. Not too happy right now.
I'd love to know what you think.
Cheers)

This isn't something i'm any better at, but i think the composition on your environments is really weak, and holding them back quite a bit. Do you have any books or videos on the subject of creative environments?
I have Syd Mead's thumbnail sketching,
Feng's Perspective Training and Sketching environments.
Anything else you can recommend? Also feel free to drop more specific feedback. Much appreciate it.
Maybe try out some different exercises to get you thinking of envrionments in different ways? If i had to guess, i'd think you have the same problem i do with environments -- when you're painting an environment you have to really focus on defining the perspective/forms and it prevents you from freeing up and focusing on the composition, so maybe a really different workflow would let you bust out more creative pieces
This is really neat, albiet pretty expensive:

And this may be something cool to try out, i know jackwhat here uses these techniques a lot:

Lastly, and most importantly, if you don't already own it, get [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Skillful-Huntsman-Visual-Development-College/dp/0972667644"]the skillful huntsman![/ame] There's a video review down in the comments, the book will blow you away.
And his environment technique is awesome - I've seen this one already and yeas it rocks. But I guess I'm just not familiar with the basic stuff, so this will have to wait. I mean what you see here is pretty much all I can make myself draw/paint so I'll wait until I'll do a few hundreds of those and then definitely check it out.
meanwhile, a little movie study. damn, I'm slow
another one
and another one ~3h
damn sunny days look better - juicier colors and way more contrast.%\
