Hey Everyone,
So I'm just starting to sink my teeth into maya after 8 or so years of max, decided to start this sketchbook here to dump all of my new Maya junk into.
As always I'll appreciate crits! Thanks!
To start off, I gave myself a task to learn the modelling side of things in Maya 8.5:
A new couple of low poly base meshes for a male and female that I plan to equip with various fantasy type gear.
Sorry no fancy exxagerated proportions here, just plain old 7 heads ish normal / defaults! I may even end up making them squatter and heavier set looking, a little monster hunter-esque.
Silhouettes:
No-Topology-Done-Yet-Wires:
I mainly wanted to make sure the silhouettes looked distinctive and easy to read as male / female even at the base, naked level. Thats really the main task here so crit away if im overlooking something or if you think I could push out the masculine / feminine silhouette more without going overboard on the usuals!
Ive just spotted that I could beef up the forearms of the male a fair bit, so I'll do that.
Not much concern for toplogy at the moment as you can tell, I'll tackle that shortly.
Currently about 2000 tris each.
P.S I have Maya teething pains.

Firstkeeper: I started to learn Maya because the company I will hopefully arrive at soon uses Maya, Its too early to say if one is better than the other, but so far, there are somethings I like more, and other things I like less than max.
I remodelled and attacked the silhouette of Vincent, I want to try get him finished before I tackle Mop's goblin SDK!! I still need to redo his hair, still in blockin stage. Also need to work some decent shadows into the painting as well.
I think the silhouette is reading much better than it used to!
Looking at it again, I reckon ill be repainting the cloak on the back!
Started working on his face texture, getting stuck trying to extract more likeness... any critiques please sing out!
More progress, reworked the face and started adding the hair proper!
gaganjain: Thanks man, Ill try to tackle the mouth again with fresh eyes , I need to move onto the clothes and gold armour
Heres where I got to with the hair and face, Time to move on, ill come back to it again later!
EDIT: I AM DISSAPOINT
Looking good with the Vincent! I like the shinies. I just noticed his headband looks a different colour to his poncho! =O

I'll use this thread more often from here on out, too many threads to keep track of!!
I decided to do a tribute sculpt to Stanley Lau's Pepper character, shes so freaking awesome! Heres the wip so far:
Here is also a link to a 15min timelapse of some of the process, mainly polypainting and a little bit of sculpting.

Thanks to Funkybunnies for showing me some adobe aftereffects shtuff!
Hmmm for my personal stuff, I use this base mesh nearly every time for my sculpts unless i have to start anew for a comp or for like miku etc:
Its about 5 years old now lol. Basically sculpt up from this sub-d
The matcaps are for Zbrush 4r4.
Hazardous_Skin
Hazardous_Skin_flatspec
I like the flatspec when I'm painting, and add the spec on at the end. In Hazardous_Skin I've tweaked the spec to pop harder on lighter values in your polypaint, so any areas that are dark will be much less specular than the lighter.
I look forward to seeing more posts!
So, I wanted to put this in here also.
It's my school project back in the day from Qantm 2003, I wanted to put this in here just for old times sake and to immortalise this stuff so I never loose it again.
I dug it up after looking at some super old work inspired by that past and present thread thats bouncing around.... anyway prepare for the most awesome 3 minutes of your life.

some 2d study stuff from a little while ago. 30 - 60 min scratches
looking forward watching her being completed over time
Carry on.
Conducting a bit of an experiment, will mention more about it as it goes on, and as it makes sense and takes shape for me.
Elf girl!
also, for the rope around the waist, what do you usually do to achieve that? did you just model it in max/maya, bring it in to zbrush, move it around, and clone?
