Hi all,
here is my problem.
In 3ds max 2010 , when I go to Preferences / Viewports / configure driver (direct 3d) and I change the settings to display the textures size, it work as long as I stay in Max, but if I shut down and restart Max, the setting are lost.
Any idea why or how I could save these settings? I though they would be automatically saved.
thank you
Tharmine

on the menu bar, click customize and custom UI settings. To modify the default settings.
Or you can just save the scene as a MyStudio_ConfgD3d.max
Btw it is not related to the UI really, but how the direct 3d drivers work...
cheers
Default switchers and Custom UIs actually.

This also should help you out since I believe this is what you are looking for.........I havent reached the level where I can use D3D with 3ds max but in Maya there used to be a dialog box to change such settings.
If you still fail to make d3d default as a display than I suggust you should just customize as you did before and save as "MyStudio."
I encountered the same issue with Max 2010.
Finally I found how to manage it, so I want to share the solution.
You just have to save a CustomUI scheme, and you will have your preferences saved on your next start.
It seems that everytime you launch 3DSmax 2010 it load the Default UI scheme and it restore these preferences.
Hope it helps.
Set up a maxstart.max file and save it in your default scenes folder it will load whatever you prefer.
Custom UI Switcher as mentioned is the right way to set it up and if you tweak your colours etc. make sure to save the scheme with your name. This way i used to carry my settings and colours from max to max for years!
