Tablet not recognised once un- and re-plugged

I'm having some trouble on a laptop (Dell Inspiron 1545, 2.1ghz dualcore, Win 7 x64), where I have to reboot the machine for it to recognise my tablet (Wacom Graphire.. 3, I think? USB.). At least, up untill now it's only ever given me grief when I've had it plugged in, unplugged it later, after which it just won't work in any usb port, flashing its light at me like a one-eyed sulky tablet.
If I reboot it works again, but this is getting to be a real annoyance.

Any thoughts?

Try an older driver. I recently moved my Intous2 to another XP machine. The recommended driver didn't work, but the older ArtZ driver does! It recognized my Intuos2 pen, and did a good job with setting up the sensitivity.

I selected the 2nd-to-last option here, the UD Series/etc.

I completely forgot to check this thread for replies, mostly as I haven't had the problem anymore. If it does show up again, I'll try that. I actually re-installed the drivers a while back when my wacom would work on the log-in screen, but not once logged in >__>
