i did a quick unwrap and pass at burning the normals, been very busy lately and i know this needs alot of clean up but here is first pass
thanks roostermap, yeah i didnt like them much either, i have removed them in the LP
thanks JacqueChoi!
thanks Richard Kain!
thank you Devin Busha, yeah i wanted to design a marine suit different from the original but one that would look fine standing in the starcraft universe.
manchild, my crit for you is improve your tf2 skill jkjk (i am gkaine ^_^) one of my regrets while designing this suit was not paying more attention to the underliying anatomy while i designed it, i just wanted to have fun and was going for an over the top warhammer look while keeping it just barely not broke. so it may not be perfect in some areas but my excuse is its a tech skeleton holding him together from the neck down.
The proportions work as is for a cartoony look -- for mega-stylized but belivable anatomy i think the only thing that needs a tweak is the angle of the arms (shoulderpads can stay as is) -- i did a little drawover to show what i'm thinking when i see it.
EDIT: If you are putting a cigar in mouth, please explain where hez exhausting the smoke from? I have been looking for answer to this question for 10 years now. *blush*

thanks supror and zacd for taking time to draw over this, i changed em to where you have them supror but i moved them back, they looked slightly more gimpy in that position
thank you ironhawk!
thanks Nitewalkr haha, i dont care where the smoke goes
thanks seforin!
so i put all the normal maps together and did some clean up i will do more clean up as i paint the diffuse but i am going to start on texturing next
Such a clean model. Lately there's been a few great inspired models from other games. And this one is up there on the quality scale. Do you plan on reworking those pistons or putting anything in that open slow behind the calves?
Head seems a bit small, it's a very large helmet area for such a tiny head, looks odd, and his lips bother me a bit, too wide. Here's some reference you might want to look at:
Lookin' forward to the texturing like everyone else!
lol thanks dv8ix but no way!
thanks dejawolf!
gallows i got rid of it hopefully no1 will know the rush job that those pistons were anymore
thanks sampson, i see what you mean, itll be an easy fix when i get back to them thanks
james edwards you are a god among ants, i aspire to be you
thanks crazyfingers, i proly wont play with the proportions anymore at this point but lesson learned for sure.
thanks ged
i started texturing him today! i am enjoying this take on a sc marine because anything + blackhawkdown is awesome imo.
This is so badass. I like the sectional pieces of camouflage mixed in with the single tone sections. I dont know if that's just because you havn't gotten to that point yet, but i think you should keep it in this form.
I'm glad you elaborated, very helpful criticism!
Dink!
In a perfectly fair world, which this one obviously isn't, saying "I don't like something" should be as justifed as saying "Love it!" or "Awesome!". :)
Seeing a camo' marine does fight a little against Blizzard's cartoony style, but it does seem to make sense to have a suit that blends in with its surroundings. The bake came out great, so changing the style of the suit won't be hard (if necessary). I'm liking this direction though.
thanks mrskullface and nitwalkr!
thanks adam!
hopefuly itll get better rooster ;x!~ its just blockout color and rush spec atm
thanks clycloverid ! i havent done the rifle yet ! i am lazy, i know im gona have to eventaully
i tried the pixel camo, i just ended up liking this better from my tests. i actually have it on a layer. maybe ill post after but proly not thanks tho!
Or something else like that. Or maybe even leave it as some sort of white 'plastic' like material, like the character from the new PlatinumGames game, Vaquish.
In my opinion, the current camouflage makes him look like your average marine, nothing really interesting at all. Other than that, it looks great! (the model itself)

Not really sure about those things on the back of the boots, they seem forced. Definitely be checkin' back on this thread!
But the piston looking things at the back of his calfs need to either be developed further or removed.
yeah they are totally rushed. i think ill be deleting them!
Sweet modeling.
