Ok looking at it and having just looked up what matador hats should look like it is a very good representation of a matador hat. Problem is I didn't have enough of an existing concept of what a matador hat should look like for it to have impact. The way around this would be to have other matador visual cues which would then make the hat make more sense. The obvious one would be to combine it with a shoulder cloak... though getting that to work nicely is a world more work for you.
TL;DR its a great matador hat but matador hats aren't instantly recognisable enough for it to have impact.

Ok, I've got the Blu team texture done and specular map, but I still need to make it paintable... My google-fu has failed me on that subject, so if anyone knows a decent tutorial for making the paint layer, I'd highly appreciate it.
Ducksink, the two hats have different qualities. While yours has a texture that seems to fit the game's style guidelines to a further extent, Trillho has placed the hat on all classes and added more detail to the top of the hat.
I like both hats for different reasons.

My 27th hat since April 11! I was surprised when i counted them all. I had no life these 2 months other than hats. Anyway, learned a few Blender viewing techniques so this one looked better than the rest. Another collab with my buddy 8-bit. Not our last TF2 item...

Anyhow, I thought it would be a good idea to make it all-class because the point of a Barbershop Quartet is to harmonize different voices, and the point of TF2 is to harmonize your team. Metaphor, yo. :poly124:

Not sure what you mean, but I'm using Maya. I'm also using lights for the render, so there really isn't an AO bake on there (also I don't plan to add one, since it would look funny when the hat/bow falls off when you die).
ok so still having trouble, i fixed one problem and now im on to another. i fixed the previous by deleting the hbox stuff in the qc, now i get the error "WARNING: @idle : bounding box out of range : 0 -131012 -114628 : 0 0 0" and my model doesnt show up in the model viewer. here is my qc right now:

Top hat with brass goggles on is a bit of a steampunk cliche. Also how would the goggles fit over the pyro's existing goggles?

8-bit Lincoln seems to be well versed on the steam punk genre and i have no doubt that it is his intention to create this hat with that idea in mind. I don't know if i can make a pack with steam punk weapons at the moment with the long list of thing i need to make and of course with lack of experience in making weapons.
Also...
Lowered the hat, tilted it back and widened the inner rim. Better?

I think that would be one reason why. My knife was made out of my pack, although it could easily be substituted in.
As a pack, my passport item is really not viable without doing a bunch of new implementation to the game (no slot for a disguise kit).
The Valentine Pack fits the theme of the day so it makes sense.
