you might wanna make the clossest ship much higher res. since its sooo close, I assume its gotta be the center of attention. try wither making higher poly, or blur it out (depth of field).
pior: Thanks bud !
roosterMAP: That ship is still a WIP, i still need to finish modeling it out.
danshewan: Thanks, could you talk about what you dont like about the composition in order for me to understand your perspective better.
Spur & brandoom & ru4it & SHEPEIRO & BenApuna :
Thanks for the comments guys !
Ark: Thanks, Stefan is a HUGE inspiration for me, he was a big influence on this set.

I really like the way the ship in the foreground adds a sense of depth and scale to the scene, but doesn't dominate your attention. The angle of the camera adds some interest, but it also allows your eye to drift from the lower parts of the buildings, up and to the right to the space between the large structures, where you've also got some well-placed traffic to add to the sense of scale established by the foreground ship.
It's too early to say, but if anything, you might be limiting how much the sky could add to the scene - when I saw this, I imagined a dusky purple sky, with the first glimmer of the stars from the stratosphere becoming visible. You could still accomplish a really nice effect, though, especially if you're going with a night scene.
So here is a close up render of one of the ships, since its not gonna anywhere near the camera i didn't put too much detail into the model. I hope to have the entire set uv's done by this next weekend.
So guys back with another update. I pretty much finalized the background elements and now fixing the foreground elects. I should be done unwrapping by the end of this month !
The background ship does look more refined and detailed than the foreground ship, I think. Might wanna look into modeling some more details. Also, the front part of the cockpit of that latest ship looks a bit sloppy?
Yeah, I agree. I think this front ship is distracting. I understand it's position compositionally, but as it stands now, it is the least attractive thing in your image (imo), yet it is the most in the forefront. I love the rest of the image though, and I look forward to seeing where you go with it.
Xoliul & dtschultz: I'll be sure to go back and model in more detail on the front ship. And make the necessary refinements to make it look more polished.
nfrrtycmplx: Thanks bud !
roosterMAP: I'll go back and look at the concrete textures. But i think when then scene has some lights in it,it'll look alot better.
hey guys back with a big update. I've textured most of all the diffuse textures and did some spec for a few props. I still have to go back and refine all of them. I've made a much of notes that you can see what i'll be fixing up. I hope to finish this set by the end of the week !
I like the way this piece is heading and looking forward to more renders of your progress. Id like to see how this turns out and how you handle the lighting aspects. Great work!

This is hot! Are you going to have people walking around on the platforms? What else do you plan to add if anything?
Looks awesome.
Thanks man, I'll have a card with a pic of some people on it (maybe, still working that out). I have plans on lighting the scene like something out of Akira (the movie), and maybe a few more spaceships check back soon !
Oh wait the big ship on page 1, its a regular sized ship but close to the camera? I thought it was a HUGE behemoth carrier, slowly hovering through the city, barley fitting between the buildings. That was kinda cool to me :P
Just noticed the little ships now, they kinda look out of place, exactly aligned with the horizon ... they should be going slightly up, as if they were taking off - to contrast with the super stable huge ship ...
pior: that ship is twice the size of the speeder ship. I did look cool to me too, but i wanted to shift the focal point to the buildings for this shot. I'll be making a another set just like this very soon , but with the ship in the foreground ( it'll look real good) kinda like a space ship hanger....I'll be sure to fix that right now. thanks for the advice !
cycloverid: thanks man ! notes are sooo important, i know too many artists that stop taking takes and stop learning new techniques, its very sad. As i posted on pior, i'll be making another set just like this, but in a spaceship hanger looking out into the city.
Looking pretty cool. My only critique is that the color shift seems a little strong, especially the orange, I think toning it down to a more subtle gradient would probably look better.

Here is a larger render.

Nitewalkr: Thanks bud !
Thanks buddy !
Thanks, yeah here will be a bit more refinement on that ship. But most of the "cool" details will be added in by textures.

Just my 2c !
I'm in agreement with the posts about the main ship, but don't kill yourself making all this stuff!
Anyway, obviously can't wait to see how it comes out.
PS: I really like pior's suggestion about the behemoth ship, I think the positioning sort of suggests that scale anyway.

Thanks man, its a render out of max, i'm not a UDK guy yet...
Thanks man ! it took me a while to get use to modular design.
I have a film grain filter applied to the image, so i think thats where the noise is coming from.
Reminds me of the escape pod in halo 1 when you land on the ring.
I'm very happy with the final result !
