Hey guys, I figured since I cant post this at GA yet, I'll post it here for some good C&C.

the competition is to make an entire chess set based off of a theme, mine is some kind of a tribal army.

for the pawn, I have this:

A blind, religious soldier that is being used by his upper ranks.
he walks slowly, with his hand outstretched, looking for something to attack.
(ref) (not going to be exact, like the cloak and colors, unless the cloak is too cool...:poly142:

For the rest of the set, I was thinking:
King-Demon (like this)
Rook-Gigantic heavily armored soldier (like This)
Queen-???
Knight-???
Bishop-???

    so an update, mostly worked on the tattooing and cleaning up small angles.
    kind of stuck on what to do with the back of the shoes,
    spikes, plain, or other?

    looks a little misshapen and off balance in the body atm, looks like he is leaning forward. The arm guard also looks like its not too sturdy, maybe solidify it more. Id also double check your anatomy of the pectorals and how they flow into the delts. It looks a little off in that new front view. The anatomy up there in general feels a little off, shoulders are too long compared to biceps, etc. Hands look cool, just proportionately it seems a bit off.

    reminds me a lot of the King's Guards in Hellboy 2, down to the beak detail and other misc parts:

    There is nothing wrong with being inspired by something (especially the amazing Hellboy 2 stuff), but is nice to include that in your descriptions for safety's sake.

    i included it in my first post, maybe not obvious enough, but here this is.

    What is the story behind these?
    is one a copy of the other, or are they from some other source?
    Actually like the belts better on your ref than mine.
    I feel so uninspired now that my ref is from a major and recent movie:poly141:
    and I could not figure what that bone was sticking out from behind his back, another sword! oh...

    I lined the character up with a few anatomy refs, but everything seems to be in the right place, maybe the muscles are too big/misshapen?

    I would imagine that you're using some concept art from the movie as your reference.

    If you're looking to move away from doing a direct translation of the movie character, one thing that no one over at GA seems to be pushing is the resembalance to the original chess pieces. Given he's got some stylish headware going on, perhaps you could work in the disk and sphere that sit atop the classic pawn piece.

    Im giving up,
    im uninspired now due to hellboy 2 (hated it)
    and have no time due to work,
    oh well *shrug*
