It's kind of cool to know studios as big bungie use the same texture source as I do; makes me feel a little less guilty . Although I assumed they would go the extra mile and make all their own. An interesting find .
Space battling looks cool... pretty uninspiring looking otherwise, but I guess CE's opening was the same, didn't blow me away till we landed on the ring...
just saw the space combat in the gamespot interview show. looks awesome, kinda reminds me a bit of freelancer. the ship to ship combat should be a nice change of pace, and the space enviros with the floating ship wreckage looked gorgeous.
Everything up to the space fight looks like Halo 3.5. Bungie always evolved the entire halo universe with each new game, but this doesn't look like it's going to live up to that. I'm going to preorder the legendary edition anyway, because I'm still enamored in it all.
Great trailer. I'm digging the emphasis on the classic epic-scale outdoors environments; that and the soundtrack are really capturing that grand space opera vibe. Glad to see that cutscene character animation is looking much more natural and less keyframed than it was in 3. Hopefully some of the bland tiling terrain gets kicked up a notch for final release.
yea that ad is fucking ace. Although fan reaction to the last 2 more subtles trailer was "OMG NO SPLOSIONS!??WTFFFFF" so how could all those ADD riddled 13 year old fanboys sit through any sequence of a 2.5-2 hr movie where they had things such as character development or pacing :P
I would love to see a movie done in that style, the look of those commercials alone is wicked. I hope thats how whatever 343 industries is pumping feels like in terms of tone and look.
really looking forward to this new halo game for once, all the others I wasn't excited in the least really.
This looks awesome, in fact, I've got a question for all you long-time Halo fans!
I've (shamefully) never played a Halo game. I've been a Playstation guy right from PS1, and while I did have a 360 for a short time, I sold it as I just found myself playing PS3, and I still didn't play Halo.
I'm liking the look of the new design 360 and especially the built-in WiFi, so I'm thinking this new Halo might be the excuse I need to pick one up, but am I gonna need to play any previous Halo's to enjoy this one as much?
I know it's not out yet but I know some of you guys probably know a bit more about it and might be able to give me some info on that.
You may not need to play the previous ones neccessarily, but I would advise you read about the Halo universe and back story on wikipedia or somewhere like that, just to fill yourself in as to what has happened thus far!
However, this game is a prequel of sorts, so it's up to you I guess. You'll just take a different meaning away from the game having not played any other Halo games before.

Halo is a game that has a deeeeeeep story, I suggest you pick up halo 3 maybe rent it so you dont need to spend too much money and enjoy it. It is a fun game forsure.
its a prequel so you don't need to play the old ones, and they story could be summed up in a paragraph.
Covenant = Collection of alien races trying to destroy humans
Flood = race that is trying consume all life in the universe, parasitic, kinda like zombies + zerg
Forerunners = Ancient race that built the halos to destroy the flood/all life, They made a suicide effort to kill the flood but missed some. Also responsible for a lot of convent tech and have stuff on lots of planets and stuff.
If I remember right:
Halo 1, you crash land on a halo trying to run from the covenant, you help the humans re group and fight the covenant, flood are released, you destroy the halo and barely escape.
Halo 2, Covenant attack earth, you team up with the arbiter and help destroy the leadership and split the covenant into 2 opposing groups.
Halo 3, you stop the current covenant leader from destroying all life in the galaxy by activating all the "halos"
Oh wow Rens that sucks so bad : / Hopefully you can still get it. If not I suggest bringing a gun with you to a gamestop and strait up robbing some kid.
On a liter note, Halo Reach launch party tonight! Oh how unprepared my liver is.
Well, got my copy of the Legendary edition, and holy cow the packaging is incredible. Everything is really well done.
I really want to play the game, but I'm actually putting everything back in the box, and I think it's gonna sit that way til late next week. I'm gonna be outta town and really dont feel like trying to cram this game in or splitting up the experience by a week or more.
Hope everyone enjoys it! I'm looking forward to kicking some Covenant ass one last time!
Hahahah, ok it just got +10 points for having an option in the menu called "Clench Protection".
A huge issue with the game is that its using an even worse FOV than MW2... i.e. its like 50 or so in a Quake engine, with the crosshair STILL not in the middle of the screen (its like, take the middle of the screen, then go down a few inches). So this means if you have a big TV and sit withen, say, 5 feet of it, you WILL get tired, and it WILL be horrible to play... Bit st far away, and a lot of the issues go away...
Went to town today with no intention of buying Reach because whenever a good game comes out, you won't find it in a shop unless you preorder. However walked past HMV and right at the front of the shop was a big shelf full of them, even got some free stuff with it and 800 microsoft points which made me think maybe I just paid too much for it.
Anyways, at the moment I'm not finding it that great. Nothing particularly interesting about the campaign so far, the voices are meh and if you've played the beta then you'll feel like you're just walking past all the multiplayer maps in the campaign. The hologram armour power is pretty cool though.
Its not blowing my socks off thus far, sadly... I'll keep playing, but good lord this frame rate is apalling...
YES, it is isn't it. It drops quite often but not really too noticable, except when you get to this one part and there's no denying it. Feels like I'm playing on my PC.
Well Bought it last night at Midnight and played with a few buddies on legendary beat it at 8am and yeah tired as all hell now lol Great campaign though extremely epic in proportion. There were a few times though where the aircraft missions dragged on but all the missions between made up for it.
The elites are extremely challenging and good fun to be had all around.
Replies
check out this comparison the gray one is a flat from cgtexture and the brown one is the in-game screenie
NOTE: Not trying to act like whistle blower or hate on bungie just pointing out similarities
I bet the artist used PHOTOSHOP too.
Like I said not acting like this is amazing incredulous just something I noticed
EDIT
Yeah I was thinking more along the lines of wow Bungie uses Cgtextures too!?!?!?! But thats not confirmed anyways the two look a lot a like though

like seriously. Now I can't fucking wait anymore.
The wait is going to be unbearable. Awesome work to everyone that has contributed to the game!
Wish there was an option to fix the crosshair though, sucks having it there since H2...
extended look at campaign.

That last advert is pretty damn epic, and if anything it makes me more angry that MS wont just pony up the cash for a damn film in that style...
