dumme danske turister, thats what i always say to my danish friends, it's sad but it's true. na seriously everybody here loves denmark, you are the happiest people on this world!
we envy you for Røde Pøls in hotdogs and licorice on pretty much everything, well at least i do
nice job on him, really. i dunno how far you want to go with the clothing as the proportions are quite stylized but i think ome sharper wrinkles and deeper creases be really cool
also i think looking at the overall shape of the legs, his feet could be turned outwards a bit
Our tourists are terrible but the ones coming to denmark are usually the decent family type ones. Great work on the cloths but why is there a polycount face on a nazi beltbuckle! Is there some conspiracy i dont know about?
Nah fits better then a serious mass murder including one even though they had some
really nice designs back then.
Everybodys tourists have a tendency to be terrible :P
Also, as I said, its not as much a polycount logo as it is just a smiley face. Also, the wehrmacht didnt really do any of the horrible things the einsatzgruppen did. Their belt bluckle was just obnoxious, not socialistic in either the national og international fashion since its based on the Prussian coat of arms.
But yeah, I am pretty sure I heard that a lot of the allgemeine-SS blacks were produced by Hugo Boss, speaking of design.
@Zpanzer: The assymetrical bit is the torso bit of the tunic, including the flaps, the legs and arms are symmetrical since they are moved alot, so breaking up symmertry on those extremeties, especially in this case would be a waste of UV space methinks.
@KaptainKernie: Yuppers, still gonna put insignia on him, just felt like roughing in the shape first to see it evolve, also if I needed to do some proportion fixes, it wouldnt be a pain. And i've found a few things that needs fixin'..
@iWeReZ: Yep, gas mask cannister, canteen, entrenching tool etc. is going to be attatched to him, and it is going to be bobbing up and down as he runs around.
I am loving the proportions but I would have to say that I am not a huge fan of the polycount logo on the buckle, I was thinking you could maybe put it on the helmet. I have been watching this for a while now and I really dig your style. I am keen to see him with some textures and awesome little props.
We are going to use the same rig for all the characters, so the animations can be recycled on every soldier, just to hang on to our sanity. We are four people working on this, as you know.
Fixed the proportions on the hands a bit. Hope its better.
Please dont mind the sculpting on the hands, as it is far from finished. My max scene collecting all these things have just burst the two million tri count, lol..
Ok noticed that the topic title had been changed overnight.
I thought that the German word for cabbage I used in the topic title was clear to all Germans posting here that it was meant affectionately and endearing. I am sorry though that none of you Germans contacted me directly if you found offense to it, because then I could have apologized personally, and changed the title myself.
But as things are, in order of appearance, a heartfelt sorry to at least:
poopinmymouth
SpeCter
peppi
arrangemonk
Neox
Disco Stu
Also, a big sorry to those who might just have glanced over the thread without participating. I shall be weary to call the thread for the British character "Toony Tommy".
Getting back to the art though, thanks a bunch for the kind words, you can expect an update shortly!
@iiimage: The knees seem that way from threequarters, a sideview is available in post #60.
Oh by the way, someone over at game-artist requested that I do a tutorial of sorts describing how I do the lowpoly version. If anyone here is interested, I could pop a link to it in this thread when it is done..

But you guys are making fun of us, "dumme d

But yeah, everybody loves our sausage!
And about the feet, I thought about that too after sculpting the bleeping trousers, so I think I will just pose him after he is rigged..
Just a question, do you intend to do the assymetrical at some point? Also, a nice little polycount easter egg

Tunic skirt is done:
Now onto that dreadful business of making the organic bits, wish me luck!
But crit away!
EDIT: Oh snap, drew the knee a bit further down than it really is.. bear with that please
Proportion crits very welcome at this point..
Keep up the good work
(posting to keep myself motivated :P)
Face done, now onto hands.
Can't wait till I can start work on the lowpoly..
Looking forward to see the lowpoly version.

@Disco Stu: Danke schön(sp?)
=D hope you can manage a cool walk cycle or vid of him in motion.
Also he's lookin cool, face turned out great :P
Can't wait for the accessories and badges and stuff all over him part
Oh and nizza, the plan is to do a full package of cycles and throw him ingame..
Update! Its just a proportion fix, and pardon the hands, they are just unmodified basemesh..
I am loving the proportions but I would have to say that I am not a huge fan of the polycount logo on the buckle, I was thinking you could maybe put it on the helmet. Keen to see some more
Heya Bo, nice to see you around here, didnt spot your post the first time around..
But to answer your question, we are going to use bones for the chars..
Hope unity can keep up with you
Keep it up!
Ok bones then, can you copy animation from one bone rig to another?
I would use biped just to be able to use the animation on more then one character.
We are going to use the same rig for all the characters, so the animations can be recycled on every soldier, just to hang on to our sanity. We are four people working on this, as you know.
Animation can be a b***h.
btw. let me know if you need help with anything, I'm in Gren

Time for insignia and gear
Are you planning to do some animation?

i was about to ask why you removed the kraut ^^
Put some further thought into it, and I am going to do the insignia normals in photoshop, much easier, and faster, too :P
