Here's the model ive been tooling around with this week, still have some work to do on it, but once im done I'd like to try and normal map it and throw it in the CryEngine.
Anyway, the way the gun works is that the bullets load into the drum in the middle backwards so that when the gun is fired the gas from the firing spins the drum 180deg and the bullet at the top is now at the bottom and facing the right way; and so on.
I'm aware of the smoothing issues, but if you guys have any comments or critics i'd be happy to hear them, especially about my wires :P (and if you want anymore pics don't hesitate to ask)
Cool idea, you must be still working on it. It felt like a few things were missing like sights, maybe the hammer. I'm also curious did you figure out how it animates where do the shells go when you fire it and how do you release the clip to reload it, is there a safety feature? Or is this gun some sort of high tech sci-fi thing. Nothing stands out to me in the high poly wires but I’m not an expert on high poly. I don't see any issues with the shaded which is usually where you see pinching or shading issues which would point to problems with your model. Good luck, keep working on it.
I wouldn't call this a revolver. That said, it looks pretty cool. I think you need to put on the sights, and the hammer on the back. The part above the handle looks plain, and that the part you would see most if this for a fps like most guns are.
*Sorry should read the post before mine before posting . Just woke up.
@wilex: thanks man, yeah i haven't modeled the sights, etc. The casings fall out the bottom, infront of the trigger, and I haven't decided how the ammo clip will be released, either i'll spend some time and make it creative or just have a button on the grip. I'll make an animation when im done should look cool if I can make it animate like im imagining right now lol.
@cody: Yeah I just called it a revolver because of the center drum. Im gonna add more detail to the area above the handle besides just the sights, it was the last thing i worked on last night before posting.
The concept is really interesting. I like it. The design is just a little boring right now, as stated before. I would definitely continue with this and improve the design if I were you cause it really has some potential. Looking forward to more!
Its pretty far from recoilless, but its a cool design. Though I have to wonder about how well one could shoot it with that much of the weapon's mass ahead of the grip.
Thanks for the comments guys i forgot to mention that the style of the gun (hollowed out so you can see most stuff) is based on this gun from Romeo+Juliet
@Stench: Thanks man, yeah i spent some time today adding most of the final touches
@Vailias: Yeah i did a little research, and it would still have recoil but w/e the loading animation is cool lol. And yes you'd probably have to very skilled to use this gun.
@fonfa: Agreed, the slide looked very deagleish, ive made some adjustments to get a more unique silhouette
I have the flu or something and feel like shit so here's what i think the final model (sans materials/ lights) looks like, but im lacking creativity right now so I'll prolly add/subract stuff in the morning
BTW if anyone has any explanations to why the shadows caused by my skylight seem to have no boundaries (the shadows on top of the barrel caused by the bullets above) I would love to hear them.

Nicely different take on pistol design though.
